According to a report from Kuai Technology on September 28, Arm architecture CPU cores have been mandatorily 64-bit since 2023, with 32-bit instructions gradually being phased out.
In 2024, Google imposed restrictions on 32-bit apps on Android 15, meaning that new devices shipping with Android 15 starting in September 2024 will not be able to install and use 32-bit apps.
According to the official announcement of the Mobile Smart Terminal Ecosystem Alliance, currently, the four members of the Golden Standard Alliance - OPPO, vivo, Xiaomi, and Lenovo - have begun gradually cleaning up 32-bit apps from their app stores, and will subsequently implement relevant risk warnings and other measures for 32-bit apps that are no longer available for download.
All parties are already fully promoting pure 64-bit compatibility and urging developers to complete 64-bit compatibility as soon as possible.
As of September 27, 2024, the full compatibility rate of the four app stores has reached over 99.54%. Currently, there are still over 3,900 key apps (99% of which are not available for download) that affect users' daily lives and have not yet been adapted to 64-bit, a decrease of over 100 from the previous month.
Compared to 32-bit, the most direct advantage of 64-bit is stronger performance. At the same frequency, a 64-bit processor can process 8 bytes of data, while a 32-bit processor can only process 4 bytes, resulting in faster data processing.
It is understood that in 2022, OPPO, vivo, Xiaomi, Baidu, Tencent, and other ecosystem hardware and software companies jointly established the Mobile Smart Terminal Ecosystem Alliance, also known as the "Golden Standard Alliance".
One of the Alliance's primary tasks since its inception has been to promote 64-bit coverage in the Android camp, with the goal of eliminating 32-bit systems and apps.
