Since the release of iPhone 16, domestic media have been constantly saying that iPhone 16 is not selling well. However, recently, the analysis agency Canalys pointed out that iPhone shipments in the third quarter of this year reached an all-time high, even narrowly surpassing Samsung to become the world's largest mobile phone brand, proving that iPhone 16 is actually quite popular.
Canalys pointed out that global smartphone shipments in the third quarter of this year increased by 5% year-on-year, marking the fourth consecutive quarter of growth, suggesting that the global smartphone market is recovering, and Apple emerged as the biggest winner in the third quarter of this year.
Data shows that both Samsung and Apple captured 18% of the global smartphone market in the third quarter of this year. However, Samsung retained its position as the world's largest smartphone vendor by a narrow margin, while Apple took second place; Chinese brand Xiaomi ranked third globally with a 14% share.
Previously, overseas analysis agencies have pointed out that global sales of iPhone 16 actually increased in the first two weeks after its release, with a 12% increase in sales compared to the first two weeks after the release of last year's iPhone 15, proving that sales of iPhone 16 have been quite good since its launch, in stark contrast to domestic media ridiculing the poor sales of iPhone.
Apple's growth in the third quarter may also be attributed to the price reduction of iPhone 15. During the 618 promotion in June, the price of iPhone 15 was significantly reduced by RMB 2,350, and this price reduction measure continued until the peak summer shopping season. In contrast, domestic mobile phones rarely offered price cuts, with significant price reductions of RMB 1,500 not appearing until the tacit agreement at the end of August. Apple's larger price reduction further boosted sales of iPhone 15 during the summer vacation.
The better-than-expected sales of iPhone 16 can be attributed to the fact that this year's iPhone 16 offers more without increasing prices. All models of iPhone 16 come equipped with the new A18 processor, and the standard version of iPhone 16 has increased its RAM by 2GB without any price increase, attracting many consumers. In the domestic market, there have even been instances of consumers queuing up to buy the phone.
Domestic mobile phone manufacturers have inadvertently contributed to the success of iPhone 16. In the past, when Apple released a new iPhone, domestic mobile phones would often reduce their prices. However, this year, domestic mobile phones rarely offered price cuts, reflecting their arrogance. New flagship domestic mobile phones did not see price reductions during the 618 promotion, and even when iPhone 16 was released, domestic manufacturers were still unwilling to lower prices. With iPhone 16 offering more advanced features, consumers naturally preferred to buy it.
Qualcomm has been continuously releasing its flagship chips earlier in recent years. This month, the Snapdragon 8G4 will be released, one month earlier than last year. Qualcomm raised the price of the Snapdragon 8G4 by 20%, forcing domestic mobile phone manufacturers to increase prices. It is reported that domestic mobile phones equipped with Snapdragon 8G4 are generally priced above RMB 4,000, highlighting the cost-effectiveness of iPhone 16 even more.
China's e-commerce platforms have also contributed to the popularity of iPhone 16. Due to iPhone's strong appeal in the high-end market, the three major e-commerce platforms have offered preferential discounts on iPhone 16 this year. With the subsidies from e-commerce platforms, the starting price of iPhone 16 has been reduced from RMB 5,999 to RMB 5,399, further boosting its sales.
Given these favorable conditions, it is difficult for iPhone 16 not to sell well, and current sales figures prove that iPhone 16 is indeed popular. Its sales have surpassed last year's iPhone 15, dealing a significant blow to domestic mobile phone manufacturers. Apple fans are incredibly loyal, and despite media propaganda, they continue to buy iPhones.
Traditionally, Samsung has ranked first in the global smartphone market from the first to third quarters of each year. However, in the third quarter of this year, Apple almost tied with Samsung, further highlighting Apple's sales growth momentum. This is undoubtedly a significant blow to Samsung. In the fourth quarter, Apple typically dominates the market, and this year, Apple's annual shipments may once again exceed those of Samsung.
