On November 3rd, several media outlets reported that the former SAIC-General Motors Beisheng Factory (Phase III) in Shenyang is currently undergoing renovations. Once completed, it is expected to supplement Geely Galaxy's production capacity.
A source close to Geely stated, "We've been in discussions for quite some time now, as Galaxy's production capacity is quite strained at the moment."

According to public information, SAIC-General Motors Beisheng Factory, fully named SAIC-General Motors (Shenyang) Beisheng Automobile Co., Ltd., was established in 2004 as SAIC-General Motors' production base in Shenyang. Its primary operations include manufacturing and selling automobiles and their components, as well as providing after-sales services. By 2023, the factory employed 2,000 people.
In February of this year, SAIC-General Motors (Shenyang) Beisheng Automobile Co., Ltd. ceased operations. This factory, along with the Yantai Dongyue, Shanghai Jinqiao, and Hubei Wuhan factories, was recognized as one of SAIC-General Motors' four major production bases.
Prior to its closure, the factory mainly produced models such as the Buick GL8, Envision, and Enclave, boasting an annual production capacity of up to 300,000 units at its peak.

With the rise of domestic new energy vehicles, numerous traditional automakers have found it challenging to keep pace. General Motors, already in a weak market position, began to retreat and cut costs by closing the Beisheng Factory. This move dealt a significant blow to Shenyang, as the automotive industry constitutes a substantial portion of its secondary sector, primarily driven by BMW Brilliance Automotive and General Motors' vehicle plants. The sudden loss of one plant directly impacted Shenyang's GDP this year. However, in May of this year, the Dadong District of Shenyang established Shenyang Jichi Automobile Industry Development Co., Ltd., investing 890 million yuan to renovate the automotive plant in the northern factory area of the former SAIC-General Motors Beisheng plant. In the future, automotive parts will be manufactured at the original site of General Motors Beisheng.
Regarding the name of the newly established company, many people smirked knowingly, suspecting it must be related to Geely. Indeed, in September, an announcement from the Liaoning Provincial Auction House revealed that the older southern factory would be demolished for real estate development, while the newer Phase III factory is undergoing renovations for Galaxy production.
Currently, the Galaxy series is produced at the Taizhou Linhai Base, Shaanxi Baoji Base, Guizhou Guiyang Base, Hunan Xiangtan Base, and Qiantang Base, with a combined annual production capacity of nearly 1 million vehicles across these major sites. However, these bases are not solely dedicated to Galaxy production.
As more new Galaxy models are launched, the existing production capacity has started to tighten.
For instance, the Baoji Base, which commenced production in August 2016, has an annual production capacity of 200,000 complete vehicles and 360,000 engines. Currently, the plug-in hybrid Galaxy L7 and the fuel-powered Boyue L are produced on the same assembly line.

As sales continue to rise month by month, the Xingyuan model, which sold 48,000 units in September, is produced at the Xiangtan Base.
Covering an area of over 800 acres, this base produced 300,000 vehicles last year. This year, its production capacity has been increased to 500,000 units through line renovations.
In addition to the Xingyuan, the Xiangtan Base also manufactures models such as the Geely BinYue L and Vision.
