July SUV Sales Recap: Leapmotor Leads, BYD Excels, Only One Gasoline Model Makes the Top Ten

08/17 2026 401

The automotive market in 2026 has officially entered its 'second half,' yet the much-anticipated rebound has failed to materialize as hoped. The latest sales data from the China Passenger Car Association has cast a shadow over this sweltering summer. Figures reveal that retail sales of domestic passenger vehicles in July reached 1.461 million units, marking a year-on-year decline of 20.9%. The fiercely competitive SUV segment also showed signs of fatigue, with July sales of 828,000 units experiencing a 9.4% year-on-year decrease.

Despite the overall market downturn, the competition among leading brands remains fierce. In the July SUV sales rankings, BYD emerged as the standout performer, with five models—the Titan 7, Yuan UP, Haishi 06, Song Ultra, and Song Pro—securing spots in the top ten. Among these, the highly sought-after boxy model, the Titan 7, claimed third place with its outstanding performance. The Leapmotor A10 stole the spotlight with its exceptional value for money, taking the top position; the Model Y followed closely in second place. Notably, the Toyota Corolla Cross was the only gasoline-powered model to make it into the top ten.

First Place: Leapmotor A10 - 26,424 Units

In July, the Leapmotor A10 surged to the top of the SUV sales charts, selling 26,424 units and demonstrating a robust upward trend with a 6.3% month-on-month increase. This new model, which only entered the market in March of this year, has rapidly transformed from a 'newcomer' to a 'sales champion' in just four months.

Its strategy is straightforward yet effective—offering premium features in a compact car priced between 65,800 and 86,800 yuan. The top-tier version, equipped with a 128-line LiDAR and a Qualcomm 8650 intelligent driving chip, is priced at under 90,000 yuan, significantly lowering the barrier to entry for high-end intelligent driving models and leaving virtually no competitors in the same price bracket. It also boasts a range of 505 km and supports 2.5C fast charging, allowing for 250 km of range to be replenished in just 16 minutes—sufficient for daily commutes and weekend getaways. Leapmotor has invested in features that users can directly perceive, fully delivering on its promise of cost-effectiveness.

Second Place: Model Y - 25,158 Units

The Tesla Model Y ranked second in the July SUV rankings, selling 25,158 units. Despite an 18.2% year-on-year decline and a 34.9% month-on-month drop, it still showcased strong market resilience.

Priced between 263,500 and 313,500 yuan, this model has maintained monthly sales of 25,000 units not by piling on features but by leveraging its brand reputation, a well-established charging network, and stable vehicle performance. Facing intense competition from low-priced new energy models, the Model Y has relied on these strengths to maintain its market position. Although it lost the championship this time, the Model Y remains the only foreign model in the top ten to hold its ground in the 250,000-yuan-plus price range. It continues to be a top choice for families looking to purchase a pure electric SUV.

Third Place: Titan 7 - 20,320 Units

In July, the Fangchengbao Titan 7 sold 20,320 units, showing a 3.1% month-on-month increase and securing third place in the SUV rankings. It is the only boxy-shaped SUV in the top ten.

The Titan 7 is priced between 179,800 and 239,800 yuan and offers both pure electric and plug-in hybrid versions. In July, the pure electric version sold 9,500 units, while the plug-in hybrid version sold 10,820 units, performing well in both segments. In terms of product strength, the EV flash-charging version is equipped with BYD's second-generation blade battery, offering a maximum range of 755 km and charging from 10% to 70% in just 5 minutes under normal temperatures. Its boxy design, combined with a 70.9% space utilization rate, provides impressive rear passenger and trunk space, easily meeting family transportation and storage needs.

In just 10 months since its launch, the Titan 7 has surpassed 200,000 cumulative sales, becoming the fastest model in the boxy SUV category to reach this milestone. Amid the overall market downturn in July, demand in the hardcore off-road segment continues to grow, and the Titan 7 has firmly established its market position with its differentiated product positioning, becoming an irreplaceable hot-selling model in the 200,000-yuan boxy SUV category.

Fourth Place: Yuan UP - 20,275 Units

The BYD Yuan UP secured fourth place in the July SUV rankings with retail sales of 20,275 units. It was also the second-highest-selling SUV model under the BYD brand for the month, showing a remarkable 62.8% year-on-year increase and a 13.0% month-on-month rise.

Built on the e-Platform 3.0, the Yuan UP is equipped with BYD's blade battery and CTB (Cell-to-Body) technology, offering two range versions: 301 km and 401 km. The long-range version can be fast-charged from 30% to 80% in just half an hour and comes standard with 3.3 kW external power discharge, making it convenient for camping activities like lighting and cooking. Moreover, the main 301 km entry-level version sold in July has a final price of just over 70,000 yuan after terminal discounts, offering significant cost-effectiveness.

At the same time, as one of the few pure electric SUVs in its price range, the Yuan UP's 2,620 mm wheelbase provides a spacious interior that surpasses that of A0-class sedans in the same price range. Its minimum turning radius is only 5.25 meters, making it highly maneuverable in urban driving and parking. Additionally, the mid-to-high-end versions are equipped with the 'Divine Eye' intelligent driving system, supporting highway navigation and automatic parking. This product strategy, which deeply integrates the safety of blade batteries, flexible space design, and premium intelligent driving experience, has driven the Yuan UP to maintain stable sales volume, making it a groundbreaking model in the new energy small SUV market.

Fifth Place: Changan Qiyuan Q05 - 18,871 Units

In July, the Changan Qiyuan Q05 sold 18,871 units, ranking fifth on the list. Despite a slight 0.2% month-on-month decline, it maintained its leading position in the 100,000-yuan-level pure electric compact SUV market. As of August 11, cumulative sales of the new Q05 have surpassed 100,000 units, making it the compact SUV sales champion for four consecutive months.

The official guide price for this model ranges from 79,900 to 109,900 yuan, with the entry-level model available for as low as 69,900 yuan after terminal discounts. The policy of no bundled consumption significantly lowers the threshold for home vehicle purchases. The vehicle is equipped with CATL's Golden Bell Shield lithium iron phosphate battery across all trims, offering two range options: 405 km and 506 km. It supports 3C fast charging, allowing for a 30%-80% charge in just 15 minutes, eliminating range anxiety for daily commutes and nearby trips.

When it comes to buying a pure electric SUV for under 100,000 yuan, many people worry about 'getting what they pay for.' However, the new Changan Qiyuan Q05, backed by Changan Automobile's R&D and manufacturing system and supported by over 1,000 sales and service outlets nationwide, ensures accessible after-sales maintenance, repairs, and rescue services. It has successfully broken the stereotype of 'low price, low quality,' becoming a typical representative of 'technological inclusivity' in the new energy small SUV market.
