On August 11, 2026, Beijing Public Transport Holdings (Group) Co., Ltd. formally released the tender notice for the "2026 Second Batch Bus Vehicle Renewal Project of Beijing Public Transport Group." This tender aims to replace a total of 1,150 buses, with the total project budget capped at approximately 1.187 billion yuan.
The bus replacement initiative is segmented into eight parts, encompassing a variety of bus types, including double-decker buses, 13.7-meter, 12-meter, 10-meter, and 8-meter buses, to cater to the diverse operational requirements of different routes. In terms of powertrain, new energy buses are the clear preference: with the exception of Part 2, which involves the procurement of 103 extended-range (hybrid) 13.7-meter buses, the remaining seven parts are all dedicated to pure electric buses. To guarantee the timely deployment of the new buses, the tender specifies precise delivery deadlines. The successful bidders must deliver the vehicles before November 20, 2026, and complete registration and licensing by November 30.
It is worth mentioning that this procurement represents the second batch of bus orders for Beijing Public Transport this year. The results of the first batch of procurement orders in 2026 were unveiled on March 14, with a total contract value of 1.052 billion yuan for 1,320 buses. This batch covered a full spectrum of bus sizes, including 8-meter, 10-meter, 13.7-meter, and 18-meter models, suitable for various operational settings such as mainline routes, bus rapid transit, suburban services, and community micro-circulation.
Three companies emerged as winners in Beijing Public Transport's inaugural tender of 2026: BAIC Foton secured contracts for 210 buses, comprising 70 extended-range 18-meter buses, 40 standard 13.7-meter buses, and 100 multi-seat 13.7-meter buses, with a contract value of around 288 million yuan. Geely Sichuan Commercial Vehicles won contracts for 710 buses, including 310 10-meter pure electric buses and 400 8-meter pure electric buses, with a contract value of approximately 471 million yuan, making it the largest bidder in this procurement. Zhongtong Bus was awarded contracts for 400 buses, consisting of 150 10-meter and 250 8-meter pure electric buses, with a contract value of about 293 million yuan.
According to the delivery schedule, all buses from the first batch have been delivered and licensed by the end of June 2026. As a cornerstone of urban transportation in the capital, Beijing Public Transport Group boasts a substantial fleet. Statistics reveal that as of the end of 2025, Beijing Public Transport operated 20,547 buses. This extensive vehicle replacement, with an investment of roughly 1.187 billion yuan, introduces a significant number of low-floor and low-entry bus models, further enhancing accessibility for the elderly and special needs groups, and underscoring the inclusivity and humanistic approach of urban public transportation. With the phased delivery and licensing of this batch of new energy buses by year-end, Beijing's urban green transportation network will be further strengthened.
