Is the downturn period over for JiYue?

Frequent "crossover" car tests have brought new tricks.

Not long ago, JiYue conducted a lightning strike test on JiYue 07 in collaboration with the China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC) in Tianjin. During the experiment, the test equipment subjected JiYue 07 to lightning strikes using a strong current exceeding 14,000 amperes and an ultra-high voltage pulse electric field of up to 850,000 volts. After professional inspection and certification by CATARC, JiYue 07 showed no damage to internal or external parts and electronic and electrical systems after the lightning strike test. Its intelligent driving functions remained fully functional, and the intelligent voice assistant SIMO continued to respond smoothly.

Xia Yiping stated that the purpose of this lightning strike test was to verify whether the vehicle would catch fire after being struck by lightning and whether the vehicle's systems would function normally. Ultimately, the experiment was a success. It is worth mentioning that in addition to the lightning strike test, JiYue 07 also underwent bottom scraping, wading, fire exposure, and electromagnetic radiation tests that exceeded industry standards. Unsurprisingly, all these tests yielded satisfactory results. This was JiYue's latest vehicle safety test and one of the most "crossover" events. Observant individuals may have noticed that Xia Yiping, CEO of JiYue, has been making appearances in recent JiYue tests to increase exposure.

Over the past six months, Xia Yiping has stepped out of his usual low profile and started engaging in live streaming and video production, occasionally making surprising statements. "Basically, there is one live stream every week and one short video every day, sometimes up to four or five short videos a day, and each live stream and video is planned and executed by a professional team." Currently, Xia Yiping can be considered the CEO with the most live streams and Lianmai ( Lianmai : a Chinese term for simultaneous online interaction, similar to a video call or live stream with multiple participants) this year, essentially becoming a minor internet celebrity. Meanwhile, JiYue's intelligent driving system has also been frequently presented to the public in various forms. Xia Yiping personally participated in live stream evaluations, and reports such as "JiYue aims to be a game-changer in the 'second half'" and "JiYue's comprehensive dimensional reduction strike" have increased exposure for JiYue's intelligent driving system and its standards.

"JiYue is striving to 'put on a show,'" one media outlet bluntly commented. Previously, there was public opinion that JiYue's product strength was not a significant issue, but brand recognition needed improvement. Since May this year, JiYue has begun to intensify its marketing efforts. So far, JiYue's marketing efforts have been very effective, with a sharp increase in brand exposure and gradual consumer acceptance of its intelligent driving selling points. This improvement has also been reflected in sales volumes.

Xia Yiping revealed at the JiYue 07 launch event, "We sold over 440 units in June, delivered over 1,000 in July, and then delivered 2,117 units in August." In September and October, JiYue sold 2,605 and 3,107 units, respectively. From June to October, JiYue achieved five consecutive monthly increases in sales volume. With the continuous release of JiYue 07 orders, JiYue's sales volume is expected to further increase. However, it is still too early to say whether JiYue has overcome its downturn period. Although JiYue's sales are growing, its current volume is still relatively small. To catch up with leading new-energy vehicle makers, JiYue must ensure that sales continue to rise steadily in the coming period. This poses a significant challenge for JiYue. Some media analysis points out that although sales are temporarily boosted by traffic and marketing, it is difficult for consumers to identify JiYue's core competitiveness or unique technology. In an era where high-level intelligent driving is inevitable, this means a lack of a defensive moat.

Xia Yiping stated that as intelligent driving technology is rolled out nationwide in the fourth quarter of this year, consumer acceptance of intelligent driving will continue to increase, widening the gap between many brands and gradually eliminating some of them. However, it should also be noted that although JiYue is a member of the first tier, its intelligent driving technology is not unique. Currently, both JiYue and Tesla adopt a pure vision-based high-level intelligent driving technology approach. Huawei, DJI have also introduced pure vision solutions, while NIO and XPeng have started to switch to this track.

It is worth mentioning that recently, there have been accusations that JiYue Automobile "copied" Tesla. These accusations prompted Xia Yiping to step forward and explain: JiYue and Tesla share similar pursuits in the field of pure vision-based high-level intelligent driving, which may have led to the public's misperception of "copying." The "misperception" has been clarified by JiYue. However, this incident also reflects that in the increasingly fierce competition for intelligent driving technology, trust in JiYue's intelligent driving system still needs to be improved. This will be a challenge for JiYue.
