On July 6, sugar substitute company Sanyuan Biology announced a 30 million yuan capital increase in optical materials and device startup Youwei Optoelectronics, acquiring a 10.7143% stake after the transaction, with a pre-investment valuation set at 250 million yuan.

Founded in 2023, Youwei Optoelectronics initially focused on CLBO crystals and their all-solid-state lasers. In the past two years, it successfully developed a technology route for growing YIG bulk single crystals using the optical floating zone (OFZ) method, achieving related product technology development and process implementation. However, the company is still in the early R&D investment stage and has not yet crossed the industrialization amplification threshold. Its revenues for 2024, 2025, and the first five months of 2026 were 208,400 yuan, 11.3588 million yuan, and 636,700 yuan, respectively, with net profits of -4.9166 million yuan, -7.5395 million yuan, and -2.6364 million yuan, respectively.

Sanyuan Biology stated that this investment is a minority equity stake and will not be consolidated into its financial statements, having no short-term impact on its main business finances. However, it aims to cultivate a medium- to long-term second growth curve. The company primarily produces erythritol and, affected by trade remedy measures, industry cycles, and exchange rate fluctuations, reported revenues of 650 million yuan and net profit attributable to shareholders of 91.41 million yuan in 2025, both declining year-on-year. In the first quarter of 2026, revenues reached 225 million yuan, up 49.65% year-on-year, with net profit increasing by 4.73%. This cross-border investment in optical materials is seen as a forward-looking technological Layout beyond its main business.
