On October 8, a fleet of Great Wall Heavy Industry’s GT105E all-electric wide-body trucks was officially put into operation in Hainan’s mining areas. These trucks are designed to endure prolonged exposure to the island’s harsh conditions, including high temperatures, humidity, salt fog, frequent rainstorms, and typhoons. This development aligns with Hainan’s ambitious plan to phase out fossil fuel-powered vehicles entirely by 2030.

In July 2026, Hainan unveiled its "15th Five-Year Plan for the Hainan National Ecological Civilization Pilot Zone," which stipulates that by 2030, all newly added and replaced vehicles in public services and social operations will run on clean energy. The proportion of new energy vehicles (NEVs) is projected to surge from 23.75% in 2025 to 45%. By August 2026, Hainan boasted an NEV adoption rate of 66.1%, leading the nation, with charging stations available in every town and a vehicle-to-charger ratio of 2.1:1. However, mining operations present unique challenges, requiring equipment to function continuously at high intensity in open-air environments, necessitating superior reliability, energy replenishment efficiency, and corrosion resistance compared to conventional road transport vehicles.

The GT105E is Great Wall Heavy Industry’s flagship high-volume model, boasting a rated load capacity of 70 tons and a peak power output of 800kW. It features a dual-motor + AMT three-speed transmission and is equipped with Great Wall’s proprietary SVOLT Energy power battery, with an optional high-capacity version reaching up to 765kWh. Tailored specifically for Hainan’s operational demands, the truck incorporates three key design enhancements: At the battery level, it utilizes mining-specific lithium iron phosphate cells with an operating temperature range spanning from -35°C to 65°C. The lamination process enhances thermal stability, reducing heat generation by 5% under identical operating conditions. For thermal management, it boasts an intelligent battery temperature control system with a single-unit cooling power of 12kW and a temperature control accuracy of ±1°C. The three-sided cooling design ensures unrestricted fast-charging capabilities even at an ambient temperature of 40°C. At the frame level, it adopts an integrated riveted structure, eliminating heat-affected zones and stress concentration points typically caused by welding. Combined with a 610L high-strength steel frame and an NM400 wear-resistant plate cargo box, this design enhances reliability by 40%.

Economic efficiency remains a top priority for mining clients. According to real-world testing data from Great Wall Heavy Industry across multiple mining sites, a single GT105E (450kWh) operating at a stone mine in Nanning, Guangxi, incurred annual comprehensive operating costs of just over RMB 10,000, marking a 94% reduction compared to fuel-powered vehicles under similar conditions. At an open-pit coal mine in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, deploying 20 battery-swap GT105E models (568kWh) resulted in comprehensive operating costs 77% lower than those of fuel-powered vehicles, saving approximately RMB 585,000 per vehicle annually. In Hainan, where nighttime electricity prices plummet to as low as RMB 0.2 per kWh and energy recovery efficiency exceeds 90% during heavy-load downhill operations, the cost advantage becomes even more significant.

From an industry standpoint, the new energy mining truck sector is experiencing rapid growth. In the first half of 2026, Great Wall Heavy Industry secured approximately 1,200 orders, with production slated through August and an estimated annual output value surpassing RMB 2 billion. The company has also clinched overseas orders from Mongolia, Australia, and other regions. Established construction machinery giants such as XCMG, Sany, and Zoomlion are also ramping up their electrification efforts. However, Great Wall Heavy Industry’s edge lies in its self-developed capabilities in the three core electric components (battery, electric drive, and electric control) through its parent company, Great Wall Holdings Group. SVOLT Energy offers a 6-year or 250,000-kilometer warranty for its power batteries.

The trucks delivered to Hainan essentially serve as an "extreme environment stress test." If the GT105E can maintain high attendance rates and low failure rates in high-temperature, high-humidity, and salt-fog conditions, it will gather invaluable operational data for future expansion into tropical markets like Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Nevertheless, challenges persist in mining electrification, including inadequate energy replenishment infrastructure, battery degradation under extreme conditions, and the nascent stage of autonomous driving technologies. The real-world performance of these trucks in Hainan will be a litmus test for whether new energy construction machinery can genuinely replace fossil fuel-powered equipment.
