Doubao's Limited Release Testing of Caocao Chuxing's Ride-Hailing Service: Can It Challenge the Dominance of Ride-Hailing Giants Didi and Gaode?

On June 22, according to IT Home, Doubao has recently forged a partnership with Caocao Chuxing to bolster its foothold in the on-demand travel market. Users who are part of the limited release testing within the Doubao app can directly utilize the one-click ride-hailing feature, with Caocao Chuxing providing the actual ride services.
Users no longer need to toggle between different ride-hailing apps. Instead, they can simply articulate their travel requirements in the Doubao app's chat interface, and the system will automatically discern the pickup and drop-off locations, passenger count, and vehicle preferences, matching them with available Caocao Chuxing drivers. Once the user confirms the route, vehicle type, and fare with a single tap, Caocao Chuxing will promptly dispatch the ride.
Several Caocao Chuxing drivers on duty revealed that the platform now exclusively receives ride orders from the Doubao app. Drivers accepting orders from Doubao will be rewarded with a R2 surprise service fee by the platform.
At present, this feature is undergoing limited release testing and is accessible only to a select group of users. Should the market respond favorably, the testing scope is anticipated to broaden in the coming months.
Caocao Chuxing's official customer service informed Xinshi Research Institute that the feature is still in the limited release testing phase and will be gradually introduced to other cities. They also hinted at the possibility of offering discounts on travel fares.
Previously, ByteDance had already ventured into integrating e-commerce, group buying, and other real-world scenarios. This collaboration with Caocao Chuxing marks ByteDance's latest endeavor to localize AI-driven life scenarios and represents a pivotal step for AI Agents to transition from online information processing to real-world fulfillment.
Ride-hailing services cater to a high-frequency, essential offline demand. Through this partnership, ByteDance has established a preliminary closed loop of "AI + local life," encompassing information inquiry, order placement, and ride-hailing.
An analysis by Sina Geek Frontline suggests that Doubao's strategy aims to convert its 300 million monthly active users from chat and information search users into high-frequency consumers. Ride-hailing, as a high-frequency, essential, and transaction-intensive closed-loop scenario, can enhance Doubao's intent understanding and cross-application scheduling capabilities through real interactions, paving the way for future expansion into a wider array of services such as food delivery, hotels, and ticketing.
ByteDance's decision to collaborate with Caocao Chuxing is also strategic. According to 36Kr, Didi has previously opted to partner with WeChat AI, while Gaode has teamed up with Qianwen. Caocao Chuxing, given its scale, allows ByteDance to exert significant influence. Furthermore, Caocao Chuxing's RoboX strategy and the establishment of an AI division suggest that this collaboration could extend beyond ride-hailing itself.
Xinmang remarked that Doubao's partnership with Caocao Chuxing not only facilitates rapid validation of technological maturity but also ensures service quality by leveraging compliant driver resources. This move is poised to intensify competition with Didi Chuxing significantly. Once the ride-hailing feature is fully rolled out, it will present a formidable challenge to Didi's traditional app entry point, potentially leading to user diversion, pricing pressure, and propelling the ride-hailing industry into a new AI-driven competitive era.
