On December 18, the 2nd Smart Automotive Lighting Summit was successfully held in Dongguan. Organized by the China Intelligent and Connected Vehicles Industry Innovation Alliance (CAICV) and the Intelligent Display Branch of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), the summit was guided by the Society of Automotive Engineers of China (SAE-China) and the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM). Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. hosted the event, where representatives from industry, academia, and research institutions gathered under the theme "Advancing Together with Light and Intelligence" to explore the application and future prospects of automotive lighting technology in intelligent vehicles. The aim was to integrate lighting technology into every vehicle, enhancing intelligent connected vehicles and driving the prosperity of the smart auto industry.
Gong Weijie, Deputy Secretary-General of SAE-China and Secretary-General of CAICV, noted in her speech that the standard installation of AR-HUD increased fivefold year-on-year in the first half of 2024, reaching 350,000 units, while the growth rate of in-car entertainment screens surpassed 30%. "Automotive lighting has become a crucial factor for consumers when purchasing cars and a distinguishing factor for companies in competitive markets."

In his keynote speech titled "Advancing Together with Light and Intelligence," Chen Shuangbao, President of Huawei's Intelligent Automotive Lighting Business Unit, discussed the current state of the smart automotive lighting industry and Huawei's strategic layout. Chen noted that drivers have transformed from operators to supervisors in the era of intelligent driving, making the display system crucial for human-machine interaction and trust. Huawei drives product innovation through a "dual-wheel drive" approach combining technology and customer needs. Huawei has launched three smart automotive lighting products: AR-HUD, smart headlight modules, and light field screens, focusing on safe driving assistance, intelligent interaction, and ultimate user experience. Yang Jing, Chief Expert of China Automotive Technology & Research Center Co., Ltd., and Secretary-General of the Automotive Human Factors and Ergonomics Expert Panel, presented a keynote speech titled "Experience First - Technical Requirements and Evolution Trends of AR-HUD in the Era of Advanced Intelligent Driving." She highlighted that in the era of advanced intelligent driving, AR-HUD is expected to become the primary display screen due to its rich display information and combination of safety and comfort, making intelligent driving more reassuring, worry-free, and comfortable. Yang Jing also called for industry efforts to promote the healthy and rapid development of the AR-HUD industry through accurate AR-HUD definition, standardized evaluation system construction, and industry-academia-research collaboration.

Wang Jian, a senior analyst at Gaishi Auto Research Institute, shared insights on AR-HUD market analysis and trends. According to Gaishi stats, from January to October 2024, HUD's market share was nearly 15%, with AR-HUD accounting for 27.4% of the HUD market. By 2030, HUD penetration is expected to reach 43.7%, with AR-HUD approaching 5.55 million units. Wang noted that HUD, beyond ensuring driving safety, can integrate with intelligent driving, intelligent cockpits, and the external environment, providing users with an immersive intelligent experience and convenient interaction. As intelligent driving advances, AR-HUD display content will diversify, potentially becoming a new human-vehicle interaction window and on-board visualization for smart city information.
