Three Companies Almost Decide the World's RAM Supply

Market research firms IDC, Omdia, and Counterpoint all point out that 2025 may well be the 'best year' for the traditional smartphone market. With memory costs remaining high and AI taking priority in supply, the 'sweet spot' for consumer electronics in terms of cost-effectiveness may continue to narrow after 2026. Sony's new PlayStation model is even predicted to be delayed until 2029, and there are rumors—unconfirmed but indicative of the tension—that Nvidia may skip a game GPU update for the first time in 30 years.
No Shortcuts, Only Waiting
Expanding memory production capacity is not a quick process. Building new fabs, improving yield rates, and reallocating production lines all take years. Before new capacity truly comes online, the competition for memory between AI and consumer electronics will only intensify. For manufacturers, the options are either to raise prices and pass on costs or to cut specifications to maintain prices—neither is what consumers want to see.
The term 'RAMageddon' aptly describes the current situation—not a memory crisis for a single type of device but a supply storm triggered by AI that engulfs almost all chip-equipped devices.
