According to Quick Tech news on August 18, Indian automaker Ola recently announced that it will launch India's first self-developed AI chip in 2026, utilizing the ARM architecture.
Ola's founder, Bhavish Aggarwal, is hailed as India's 'Elon Musk' due to his outspoken personality and active support for local manufacturing, sharing similar traits with Elon Musk.
He believes that exploring the AI domain is crucial for India, rather than relying on third-party solutions.
While Ola has not disclosed details about its AI chip product line, it has showcased several products, including the Bodhi series AI chips, Sarv-1 cloud-native CPU, and Ojas edge AI chip.
Ola Electric plans to introduce its first three chips starting in 2026: Bodhi 1, Ojas, and Sarv 1.
Bodhi 1, India's first self-developed AI chip, is designed specifically for AI inference tasks, suitable for large language models and high-performance visual processing applications. Its outstanding power efficiency is crucial for AI systems with increasing power demands.
The Ojas chip aims to meet the growing demand for edge AI solutions, applicable in various sectors such as automotive, mobile, and IoT.
Ola Electric plans to integrate Ojas into future electric vehicles, potentially for functions like managing charging optimization and advanced driver assistance systems.
Sarv 1, on the other hand, is a general-purpose server CPU based on the Arm instruction set, designed to cater to AI computing needs in the data center industry.
Aggarwal stated that they will select world-class foundries for chip production, potentially TSMC or Samsung.
