Although many users switch to new phones after manufacturers release them each year, most users expect to use their phones for at least three years. In this regard, iPhone leaves a deep impression, as it is common for an iPhone to last for about five years. One important factor contributing to iPhone's ultra-long lifespan is its extended system update support. Typically, Apple provides approximately five years of system updates for each iPhone model, which most Android phones cannot match. However, Android phones are showing a trend of learning from iPhone in this regard, exemplified by the upcoming Xiaomi 15 series.
According to media reports, Xiaomi intends to provide up to five years of system updates for the upcoming Xiaomi 15 series, including software and security updates. This is uncommon in the Android ecosystem. However, it remains uncertain whether the update frequency will remain consistent throughout the five-year period. If so, this measure by Xiaomi is indeed conducive to boosting sales of the Xiaomi 15 series to a certain extent.
Based on previous online rumors, the Xiaomi 15 is set to be the first to launch with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 (or potentially known as Snapdragon 8 Elite). However, there are also reports that the Honor Magic 7, which is expected to be released earlier, may compete with Xiaomi for this honor. It won't be long before we know who will be the first. In terms of appearance, the Xiaomi 15 will largely resemble the Xiaomi 14, with perhaps subtle differences but overall maintaining a similar style, such as the streamlined glass sandwich structure and relatively flat metal frame.
Regarding colors, it has been revealed that the Pro version will come in three classic colors: black, white, and silver. This means that silver will replace the previous generation's Rock Green color. Additionally, the Xiaomi 15 Pro will continue to offer a titanium metal satellite communication version. The screen will continue to use a 2K OLED display from CSOT, provided by TCL. There is not much room for improvement in screen quality, with only minor changes to basic parameters. High-end flagship screens inherently start at a high quality level.
In terms of photography, the setup will remain a combination of a 50MP main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens, a 50MP telephoto lens, and a 32MP front camera. While the pixel count remains unchanged, some sensors are expected to be upgraded. The battery capacity is rumored to be significantly increased to 6000mAh (compared to the 4880mAh of the Xiaomi 14 Pro), while the 120W wired and 50W wireless charging powers are likely to remain the same.
Moreover, the storage configuration will undoubtedly be top-notch, complemented by an under-display optical fingerprint sensor. Overall, it will boast the features expected of a top-tier flagship device. Regarding pricing, Lei Jun has already announced a price increase. Personally, I anticipate an increase of around 300 yuan over the previous generation. For average users, those who intend to purchase are unlikely to be deterred by this modest price hike, while those who are hesitant will always find fault.
I wonder how many of you are looking forward to the launch of the Xiaomi 15 series?
