The Mechanical Revolution Pterodactyl 15 Pro has garnered significant attention from gamers this year due to its stylish design combined with a sleek and lightweight body. Its exterior design alone has won over many, let alone the fact that it's equipped with AMD Ryzen 8000 series AI PC processors and NVIDIA RTX 40 series graphics cards, ensuring powerful performance.

Recently, Yangtze Memory launched its first QLC solid-state drive, PC41Q, specifically for the commercial consumer PC market. Let's explore how this drive pairs with the Pterodactyl 15 Pro and the experience it brings.

Exterior Design:

The A-side of the Mechanical Revolution Pterodactyl 15 Pro features a full-metal body with an electrophoretic corrosion-resistant process. The Cloud Gorge White version looks Simple and pure , with the brand name "MECHREVO" replacing the logo on the side.

The B-side screen measures 15.3 inches with a resolution of 2560×1600 and a 16:10 aspect ratio, supporting up to 240Hz refresh rate and a maximum brightness of 500 nits, covering 100% of the sRGB color gamut. It fully meets gamers' needs and supports 180° opening and closing. The camera at the top of the screen features a physical switch design to maximize privacy protection.

The C-side of the laptop is equally clean, with relevant stickers moved to the D-side for a more visually appealing look. The keyboard includes a numeric keypad with a relatively compact layout. A performance button is designed beside the power button on the top left, allowing one-click adjustment of the laptop's performance mode, which is quite practical.

In terms of ports, the back of the laptop is equipped with Mini DP, full-featured Type-C, HDMI 2.1, RJ45, and charging ports. The left side features USB 3.2 Gen1, Type-C, and a combo audio jack, while the right side has two USB 3.2 Gen1 ports.

The Pterodactyl 15 Pro has a body thickness of approximately 19.9mm and weighs about 2.0kg. Its sleek body combined with a white exterior design immediately catches the eye.

Next, we will conduct performance testing of Yangtze Memory's PC41Q based on the Mechanical Revolution Pterodactyl 15 Pro platform to see how this storage newcomer shines.

First, let's briefly introduce this drive. As the name suggests, "PC41Q" stands for "QLC." It's Yangtze Memory's first QLC solid-state drive specifically designed for the commercial consumer PC market. It adopts the familiar Xtacking 3.0 architecture, fourth-generation 3D NAND flash chips, and PCIe Gen4×4 interface, with an officially advertised maximum sequential read speed of up to 5500MB/s.

PC41Q is available in 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacities, with 2280 and 2242 form factors suitable for a wide range of devices. Considering cost-effectiveness and user experience, PC41Q adopts an HMB host memory buffer scheme without a dedicated cache design.

CrystalDiskinfo reveals some basic information about Yangtze Memory's PC41Q: PCIe 4.0×4 transmission mode, NVMe 1.4 standard, supporting S.M.A.R.T., TRIM, and VolatileWriteCache.

As usual, the CrystalDiskMark test results show that PC41Q achieves sequential read speeds of up to 5811MB/s and sequential write speeds of 5411MB/s, exceeding the officially advertised speeds. 4K random read speed is 77MB/s, and random write speed can reach 178MB/s.

TxBench test results: Sequential read speed of 5621MB/s, sequential write speed of 5575MB/s, 4K random read and write speeds of 62MB/s and 167MB/s, respectively.

Using ATTO Disk Benchmark to test the continuous read and write performance and stability of files of different sizes, the peak read speed reaches 5.38GB/s, and the peak write speed reaches 4.99GB/s.

Using AJA System Test to simulate professional format video media files, with a 64GB file size and 3840×2160 UltraHD resolution, the read speed is measured at 4400MB/s, and the write speed at 4712MB/s.

PCMark 10 full system drive benchmark test results: Bandwidth of 453.35MB/s, average access time of 58μs, and an overall score of 2862.

From the above tests, it's evident that PC41Q's speed performance in continuous read/write, media playback, and daily use scenarios is more than adequate for daily needs. We were also concerned about PC41Q's stability and conducted a 20+ hour, 1000-cycle power cycle test using PassMark Rebooter. The drive passed the test flawlessly, demonstrating its reliability.

We also recorded the drive's temperature during high-speed read/write operations, observing a temperature of 44°C and a peak sensor temperature of 57°C. In a laptop's confined space, such excellent heat dissipation performance ensures no overheating issues during large file transfers.

After testing the processor, graphics card, memory, and hard drive configurations, we used PCMark 10 Extended for overall system performance testing. The results were: Base Score of 9443, Productivity Score of 10199, Digital Content Creation Score of 13418, Gaming Score of 21912, and an Overall Score of 10118.

Additionally, we conducted gaming performance tests on 3A titles such as "Black Myth: Wukong," "Tomb Raider: Shadow of the Tomb Raider," "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt," "Assassin's Creed: Odyssey," and "A Plague Tale: Requiem."

At 2K resolution, "Tomb Raider: Shadow of the Tomb Raider" with DLSS Quality and High Settings achieved an average frame rate of 131fps.

"A Plague Tale: Requiem" sets DLSS quality, enables DLSS frame generation, and has a high graphics preset, achieving an average frame rate of 93 fps.

"Assassin's Creed: Odyssey" boasts extremely high graphics quality with an average frame rate of 57 fps.

"The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" with preset ultra-high ray tracing graphics and enabled DLSS frame generation achieves an average frame rate of 83 fps.

"Black Myth: Wukong" with recommended graphics settings, 45% supersampling clarity, enabled DLSS and frame generation, achieves an average frame rate of 100 fps at maximum graphics quality.

In terms of heat dissipation and performance, we used AIDA 64 for a CPU stress test. After 15 minutes, the CPU power consumption of the Mechrevo Pteranodon 15 Pro remained stable at 83W, with a processor frequency of around 4.5GHz.

Using AIDA64 and Furmark for a 15-minute dual stress test, the CPU power consumption stabilized at 52W with a core frequency of around 4.0GHz, while the GPU power consumption was 95W, the GPU frequency was 2.64GHz, and the GPU temperature remained around 75°C. The Pteranodon 15 Pro's ability to sustain such performance during dual stress tests demonstrates its excellent heat dissipation.

During the dual stress test, we also recorded the temperature of the laptop's C-side using an infrared thermometer. The highest temperature was 46.4°C, concentrated mainly in the center of the keyboard, with the WASD area around 31°C.

Summary:

The tests clearly demonstrate that YMTC's PC41Q offers outstanding performance that fully meets the demands of high-performance gaming laptops and gamers, with sequential read speeds exceeding 5800MB/s and write speeds over 5400MB/s. The dynamic cache further enhances the continuous write experience. With YMTC's brand influence and the product's cost-effectiveness, we anticipate more laptops adopting this SSD in the future.

Mechrevo Pteranodon 15 Pro's overall performance is also impressive, with a sleek and stylish design without compromising on heat dissipation. The combination of the Ryzen 7 8845H processor and RTX 4060 graphics card meets the needs of most gamers, making it a highly recommended high-performance gaming laptop.
