Apple to Face First Fine Under EU Digital Markets Act: Up to 13.9 Billion Yuan

Fast Tech News, November 6: According to insiders, Apple will be fined by the EU antitrust regulatory body.

The penalty is imposed based on the EU's newly introduced Digital Markets Act, and Apple will be the first company to be sanctioned under this act.

It is reported that the fine may be issued within this month, but the timing is still subject to change.

The penalty amount may be 1.8 billion euros (approximately 13.9 billion yuan), stemming from Apple's failure to allow app developers to guide users to purchase cheaper products outside the App Store.

The penalty may also be accompanied by periodic fines until Apple complies with the Digital Markets Act, and the decision is still being drafted.

It is worth noting that Apple was already fined 1.84 billion euros under the EU's traditional competition rules for similar conduct a few months ago.

At that time, Apple prevented streaming music platforms like Spotify and other music streaming services from offering users payment options outside the Apple App Store.

In June this year, the EU warned Apple that it must provide developers with effective channels to guide users away from the App Store, or it will face penalties.

Now it seems that Apple still cannot let go of the "Apple tax," a cash cow, as other countries and regions will follow suit once the EU sets a precedent, with Japan already showing signs of interest.
