Recently, Qualcomm unveiled its latest secondary flagship processor, the Snapdragon 8s Gen4. The naming was deliberately cautious, avoiding the rumored 8s Supreme Edition due to significant performance disparities. According to Qualcomm's official data, its overall performance falls slightly below that of the Snapdragon 8 Gen3. Given this, we can reasonably anticipate the pricing range for phones equipped with this chip. As for the inaugural model, it will undoubtedly be the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro, poised for release around the middle of this month barring any unforeseen delays.
Let's delve into the device's core features and specifications. The 8s Gen4 boasts a main core frequency of 3.21GHz, closely mirroring that of the 8 Gen3, ensuring robust performance. The GPU is equally impressive, making high-quality gaming on the Turbo 4 Pro a seamless experience. The standout feature, however, is its battery life. Reports indicate it will be equipped with a colossal 7550mAh battery, outstripping the 7300mAh batteries of competing devices.
If the device can maintain a thickness of approximately 8.3mm, coupled with the confirmed metal frame, the overall build quality should be commendable. Coupled with 90W fast charging, its battery life is unparalleled in the smartphone market. Some online users have suggested that the Turbo 4 Pro uses a placeholder camera, but I disagree. An 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens is sufficient for daily use, unlike a 2-megapixel camera, which is typically considered a placeholder. Combined with a 50-megapixel main camera and a 16-megapixel front camera, the Turbo 4 Pro offers imaging capabilities on par with mid-range phones.
The screen quality can be inferred from the existing Turbo 4 and is unlikely to undergo significant changes. The device uses a short-focus fingerprint sensor for identification. From its name, it is evident that the Turbo 4 Pro is an upgraded version of the Turbo 4. The Turbo 4 Pro should excel in all aspects, with pricing being the primary concern. Currently, the third-party price of the Turbo 4 has dipped below 1400 yuan, and the price of Snapdragon 8 Gen3 devices has even fallen below 1700 yuan. While these are subsidized prices, they set a pricing benchmark for the Turbo 4 Pro.
Wang Teng previously hinted at the release of an affordable phone in April, likely referring to the Turbo 4 Pro. Considering online speculations that the device will bridge the price gap between the Turbo 4 and the K80, I personally estimate its price to be set at 2199 yuan, with a subsidized price of 1870 yuan. Some may argue that this pricing exceeds that of many Snapdragon 8 Gen3 and Dimensity 9300+ models, questioning its value proposition.
Currently, the Turbo 4 Pro's primary advantage appears to be its battery life. However, if this is its sole selling point, it may struggle to stand out amidst a sea of mid-range phones. It is hoped that the 8s Gen4 will not replicate the disappointing sales performance of its predecessor, the 8s Gen3.
I'm curious to know how many of you are intrigued by the 8s Gen4 model?
