On November 26, Huawei held the Mate brand event, where Yu Chengdong introduced the new Mate70 series phones, and the "strongest Mate ever" finally made its debut. Other new products released at the same event, such as the Zunjie S800, could not overshadow the popularity of Huawei's new high-end offerings.
The Mate70, Mate70 Pro, Mate70 Pro+, and Mate 70 RS Masterpiece represent not only Huawei's strength but also the achievements of many domestic supply chains behind the scenes.
In fact, which manufacturers and configurations Huawei uses is one of the topics of greatest interest to the market. This time is no exception.
Huawei and domestic supply chains share high-end achievements
Huawei used short-focus fingerprint technology in last year's Mate60 series, but the Mate70 series has switched to 3D facial unlock + side fingerprint. Goodix is the supplier of its unlocking solution.
Goodix is a key supplier in the industry, with five major businesses including sensors, touch control, audio, security, and wireless connectivity. Industry statistics show that in 2024, Goodix's under-display fingerprint shipments accounted for 56% of the market.
Recently, Goodix also officially announced the acquisition of the well-backed CloudMinds, whose shareholders include Qualcomm, Xiaomi, BOE, etc. CloudMinds specializes in high-resolution AMOLED driver chips and exclusively supplied AMOLED DDIC with LTPO technology to a mobile phone brand last year.
It should be noted that well-known tech blogger Digital Chat Station revealed yesterday that ultra-thin optical fingerprint, a technology that once revolutionized mobile phone unlocking trends, has ceased production. In the future, short-focus optical fingerprint, ultrasonic fingerprint, and side capacitive fingerprint technologies will coexist. If domestic technological breakthroughs continue in the future, Huawei may adopt other unlocking methods in subsequent products.
Apart from Goodix, another Huawei supplier that the market is most concerned about is Lens Technology. Lens Technology is one of the top suppliers in the industry. When Xiaomi launched the Xiaomi 15 series, Lens Technology supplied a large number of components, and both the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro were manufactured by Lens Technology (Xiangtan) Co., Ltd.
Similarly, Lens Technology also plays an important role in Huawei's supply chain. The China Business Herald quoted industry insiders as saying that Lens Technology has been involved in the development of product accessories for multiple important models such as the Pura and MateXT series and is a major supplier of Huawei's exterior parts, structural parts, and functional modules.
According to CaiLian Press, Lens Technology supplied glass covers, decorative parts, rear cover assemblies, and other accessories for the Mate70 series and Mate X6 this time. Lens Technology holds a significant share of the Mate70 series' business. For example, it supplies glass covers, DECO, camera covers, etc., involving multiple aspects of exterior structural parts and rear cover assemblies. This shows that Lens Technology is an important supplier for Huawei's Mate70 series.
In an investor relations activity record disclosed in October, Lens Technology also stated, "Many flagship phones have been or will be released this month, and we have a large share in these products. The company is also deeply involved in changes to new phones next year."
On November 27, an investor asked on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange's Interactive Easy platform about the relationship between this year's popular four-sided curved screen design for mobile phones and Lens Technology. Lens Technology responded that it has mass-produced four-sided equally deep curved products for multiple mid-to-high-end models. Although specific models were not disclosed due to confidentiality requirements, it is not difficult to speculate that Lens Technology's participation is theoretically high based on this year's mobile phone launch list. The Mate70 Pro features a three-punch-hole full-depth four-sided curved screen.
This may indicate that in the subsequent wave of new phone replacements, behind-the-scenes suppliers like Lens Technology are both contributors and beneficiaries. Domestic supply chains play a significant role in domestic mobile phones' efforts to challenge and consolidate high-end advantages. Currently, Lens Technology's share price has increased by 62.57% this year and is expected to continue benefiting as major mobile phone manufacturers increase production.
In addition, the Mate70 series also introduces a red maple leaf true-color sensor. According to industry media ICwise, Huawei has equipped color temperature sensors since the P20 Pro. This is the first time multi-spectral imaging technology has been applied to mobile phone photography, significantly improving the phone's ability to capture light and color through 1.5 million channels. This time, the Mate70 series may have adopted a new supplier.
On the evening of November 26, Gritek announced on its official Weibo account the successful mass production of a multi-spectral CIS solution: "Close collaboration with partners - collaborative development of innovative imaging solutions and joint exploration and verification of mass production feasibility." The specific list cannot be determined, and there are similar domestic suppliers, but the Mate series' continued exploration of imaging is expected to drive technological collaboration and innovation with more suppliers.
Furthermore, Huawei's Mate70 series electromagnetic shielding materials and components, thermal conductivity materials and components are supplied by Flytech. Suppliers of display screens include BOE. Other potential suppliers may include O-Film Tech, Weir Corporation , Softtone Power, and Yinbang.
Huawei aims for stability, and sales are expected to be very strong
Another notable feature of the Mate70 launch is that in addition to being described as the "strongest Mate ever," the poster also calls the Mate70 series the "most exquisite and reliable Mate ever."
Judging from a series of information released at the conference, this mainly refers to its appearance and body design. For example, it adopts a high-brightness titanium basalt architecture, which not only has a unique design but is also more durable. What is particularly special is that the Mate70 series and the foldable MateX6 place great emphasis on user habits this time, demonstrating reliability in this regard:
The new products are not shipped with native HarmonyOS 5.0, also known as HarmonyOS Next. Instead, Huawei offers users a choice, allowing them to purchase either HarmonyOS 4.3 or HarmonyOS 5.0 based on their needs. The former can still install Android applications, avoiding the issue of some applications not being compatible.
In addition, many configuration details of the Mate70 series have been improved. For example, communication technology has been significantly upgraded, with the debut of a smart multi-antenna on the back, which helps improve performance in complex scenarios such as subways and concerts. It also debuts the "satellite paging technology," significantly speeding up satellite search.
At the software level, Huawei elaborated on the concept of full-stack AI, breaking it down into four directions: "software, hardware, terminal, and cloud." It also upgraded air operation and added an intelligent control button, allowing easy access to AI smart screen recognition. When it detects someone behind the user, the already popped-up message reminders will automatically hide, achieving privacy protection.
Obviously, these are all aimed at optimizing the user experience. The reason is simple: As a national product with huge shipments, the Mate series must truly make users feel it is easy and convenient to use. According to Canalys statistics, Huawei achieved domestic shipments of 10.8 million units in the third quarter of this year, with a year-on-year growth rate of 24%, far exceeding the average industry growth rate.
Currently, Huawei Mall reservations have exceeded 3.5 million. After the conference, a senior analyst at Counterpoint predicted that shipments of the Mate70 series are expected to exceed 10 million units during its lifecycle.
According to Wall Street CN, the Huawei Mate60 series, which went on sale directly without a conference last year, has recently surpassed 14 million units in total sales.
Considering the current growth in high-end mobile phone consumption, upgrade demand, and other comprehensive factors, the Mate70 series is destined to be a hit and will also drive companies in the industry chain to achieve better business performance.
