On September 3rd, reports from various media sources indicated that a salesperson at a Tesla store in Beijing disclosed that since the Tesla Model Y L's launch on August 19th, its sales have soared. By that date, 120,000 units had already been ordered, averaging close to 10,000 orders per day. Deliveries to the initial batch of customers have commenced as well.
The Model Y L is designed as a spacious six-seater luxury full-electric SUV. It measures 4976mm in length, 1920mm in width, and 1668mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3040mm. It has a curb weight of 2088kg and a gross vehicle weight rating of 2651kg. This model features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, generating a maximum power output of 340kW. It is paired with an 82kWh ternary lithium-ion battery pack, providing a CLTC range of up to 751 kilometers.
The base price of the Model Y L is set at 339,000 yuan. To encourage sales, Tesla has rolled out a series of limited-time incentives, including trade-in subsidies, an 8,000 yuan discount on paint options, a 5-year loan with 0% interest and no fees, and the option to buy a charging benefits package for 1,299 yuan.
Industry analysts suggest that the robust sales figures for the Model Y L highlight a substantial potential market for large six-seater SUVs and are of significant importance to Tesla. In the first half of 2025, Tesla delivered 720,800 new vehicles globally, marking a year-on-year decrease of approximately 13.3% compared to 831,000 units in the same period the previous year. In the Chinese market, sales reached 263,400 units, a decline of about 5.4% from 278,300 units in the corresponding period last year, with its market share dropping from a peak of 15% in 2020 to 7.6%.
Moreover, data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association reveals that Tesla's sales in the EU market fell by over 40% year-on-year in July, marking the seventh consecutive month of decline.
However, the most recent data from the China Passenger Car Association suggests that Tesla China's wholesale sales are projected to hit 83,192 units in August, reflecting a month-on-month increase of over 20%.
