On July 1st, Volkswagen Anhui (widely recognized as the 'Gold-Standard Volkswagen') unveiled its sales figures for June. This event marked only the second instance in its history where Volkswagen Anhui proactively disclosed its monthly sales data. In June, Volkswagen Anhui achieved sales of 2,423 units, representing a significant 120% year-on-year increase. To the uninitiated, this might not appear as a remarkable feat, particularly since companies that report their sales on the first day of the month are typically market leaders with figures far surpassing those of Volkswagen Anhui. However, as Gold-Standard Volkswagen itself commented on its June sales performance—true success lies not in outperforming competitors but in consistently surpassing one's own previous achievements. It is now forging a new path in brand development. At the very least, the courage to disclose these figures is a testament to its bravery.

Currently, Gold-Standard Volkswagen offers a trio of models: the inaugural Zony 06, the Zony 08 launched this year, and the newly introduced all-electric sedan, the Zony 07, forming a robust three-model lineup. Among these, the Zony 08 signifies the dawn of truly localized products for Gold-Standard Volkswagen. This model is viewed as a potential game-changer and the first vehicle to be personally overseen by Volkswagen China. However, the results have undoubtedly fallen short of Volkswagen China's expectations. For Volkswagen China, the Zony 08 was also intended to herald the start of its localized operations as a company deeply rooted in the local market, but this aspiration has also remained unfulfilled.
Nevertheless, the setbacks encountered with the Zony 08's launch have spurred introspection at Volkswagen, leading to strategic shifts at Volkswagen Anhui and fortifying the product's market offensive. Volkswagen Anhui is clearly drawing inspiration from the pace of emerging automotive forces, encompassing pricing strategies, channel updates, communication styles, and intelligent capabilities.
The subsequent launches of the Zony 07 on May 23rd and the refreshed Zony 06 underscore Volkswagen's transformative changes. Both models are built on Volkswagen's proprietary CEA electronic and electrical architecture and are available in two versions: Pure and Pure SE. The official guide prices for the Zony 07 are set at RMB 129,900 and RMB 139,900, with limited-time promotional prices starting from RMB 109,900, significantly undercutting market expectations. The refreshed Zony 06 boasts official guide prices of RMB 149,900 and RMB 159,900, with limited-time promotional prices beginning at RMB 134,900, offering a comprehensive upgrade 'with more for the same price'.

Particularly noteworthy is the Zony 07, an all-electric sedan that, upon its launch, allowed Gold-Standard Volkswagen to savor the taste of 'overwhelming orders' for the first time at a price point of RMB 109,900. According to current media reports, during the inaugural weekend post-launch, the Zony 07 achieved an impressive 82% conversion rate from test drives to confirmed orders. Moreover, test drive vehicles at dealerships were in near-constant use, with some locations amassing over 3,000 kilometers in just six days. As for orders, some automotive bloggers have suggested that the order volume has soared into the tens of thousands. Of course, the final confirmed order volume remains to be determined at this juncture.
On the flip side, the Zony 07 has transcended Volkswagen's traditional user base. This model stands out for its youthful appeal, with female users constituting 40% and the 20-to-30 age group making up 35%, rendering it the youngest user demographic across Volkswagen's entire lineup. Volkswagen Anhui has successfully attracted a new breed of Volkswagen user, signaling a genuine breakthrough in the new energy vehicle market and heralding the commencement of a true transformation.
From a market vantage point, monthly sales exceeding 2,000 units are merely the starting point. Presently, numerous sources within the automotive community report that the waiting time for vehicle delivery has extended to one month. From this perspective, Volkswagen Anhui's primary challenge at present is to address production capacity constraints. After all, the company has never before encountered such a high volume of orders, and the initial production capacity reserves for the Zony 07 are likely grossly inadequate. How to retain these pending orders is Volkswagen Anhui's immediate priority. However, for this automaker, an even more critical task is to ensure the sustainability of orders once the initial backlog is cleared and incentives are reduced.

Of course, that's a topic for another day. For Volkswagen Anhui, what it urgently requires now is a hot-selling model—it doesn't even need to surpass 10,000 units a month; merely ranking at the forefront of its segment would suffice to validate its product strategy. This would be ample to incentivize Volkswagen to overhaul its operational, decision-making, and R&D models at Volkswagen Anhui.
Indeed, following the Zony 08, Volkswagen did institute changes by re-engaging the Chinese team to handle marketing and pioneer new initiatives.
A month ago, on May 28th, Volkswagen Anhui Digital Sales and Service Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Volkswagen Anhui, commonly known as Gold-Standard Volkswagen) announced a landmark personnel adjustment: the current COO, Liu Zhanshu, will succeed the foreign executive appointed by Volkswagen to serve as the company's CEO. Previously, the CEO of Volkswagen Anhui was Stefan Timmermann. It's noteworthy that he had just completed his one-year tenure.
What the outside world may be unaware of is that it was under the strong recommendation of the Chinese management team, which had garnered experience with emerging automotive forces, that Volkswagen Anhui revamped its approach and strategy for the Zony 07. This adjustment ultimately altered the model's fate, providing Volkswagen Anhui with a rare opportunity to break through. However, for Volkswagen Anhui to evolve into Volkswagen's 'pure electric new force,' there is clearly a long road ahead. The current results announced by Volkswagen Anhui can be viewed as the genesis of its ascent.
