On the morning of August 27th, 200 pure electric dump trucks departed from the base of Sany Special Automobile Co., Ltd. in Shaoyang, Hunan, bound for global markets. Among them, 100 units were exported to South America, marking Sany Special Vehicle's largest single order in the South American market. The other 100 units were shipped to other overseas markets. These vehicles are primarily designed for mining operations and short-haul heavy-duty transportation scenarios.
The models exported to South America have been specifically adapted to local conditions. South American mining areas are often located in plateau mountainous regions with muddy roads, steep slopes, and frequent heavy-duty uphill and downhill operations. Sany Special Vehicle has made targeted optimizations to the vehicle's power system, load-bearing structure, braking system, and three-electric protection system, enabling the entire vehicle to carry a total load of over 70 tons. According to Wang Wei, Deputy General Manager of Sany Engineering Vehicle Business Unit, preliminary real-vehicle tests show that the model's energy consumption can be as low as 0.5 kWh per kilometer under extreme conditions. When calculating the operational costs over the entire lifecycle, it is estimated that each unit can save approximately $80,000 annually compared to equivalent European and American diesel trucks. This order is not an isolated event but rather a microcosm of Sany Special Vehicle's accelerated overseas business growth this year.
Wang Wei revealed that since 2026, Sany Special Vehicle's overseas orders for electric dump trucks have nearly doubled year-on-year, while domestic sales have grown by over 50%. Against a broader industry backdrop, China's new energy heavy truck sales reached 126,200 units in the first half of 2026, up 85% year-on-year, with exports being the primary driver of growth. Sany Heavy Truck itself exported 883 electric heavy trucks in a single shipment in June, setting a new record for the largest single export of new energy tractor trucks in China. From Asia-Pacific, South America, and Africa to Europe, China's electric heavy truck export market is rapidly expanding. The South American market has become a key focus due to the real demands of the local mining industry.
Countries such as Chile, Brazil, and Peru possess some of the world's largest reserves of copper, iron ore, and gold, with mining transportation being the most typical application scenario for heavy-duty dump trucks. Traditional diesel mining trucks face high operational costs amid fluctuating diesel prices, while mining areas generally encounter issues such as a shortage of professional drivers, rising labor costs, and prominent safety risks.
Pure electric dump trucks offer clear energy consumption advantages in closed, high-frequency mining scenarios, where charging routes are fixed and operational rhythms are controllable, making the economic case for electrification relatively straightforward. Sany Special Vehicle's confidence stems from its continuous accumulation in the domestic market. Established in Shaoyang in 2003, the company entered the new energy special vehicle sector in 2018, successively launching products such as electric mixer trucks, electric driverless mixer trucks, hydrogen fuel cell mixer trucks, and pure electric dump trucks. In 2025, its annual sales exceeded 10.2 billion yuan, with electric vehicle sales increasing by 126% year-on-year.
In the first half of 2026, it produced 13,000 units, up 36% year-on-year, with an output value of 6.4 billion yuan, up 35% year-on-year, aiming for an annual output value target of 12 billion yuan. In the new energy dump truck market segment, Sany ranked first among single factories in July 2026 with 731 units sold and an 18.1% market share. More notably, just 10 days prior on August 12th, Sany Group had dispatched the first batch of SKT110Ei pure electric driverless mining trucks from its Shenyang park, also destined for South America. This marked the first driverless mining truck project to be implemented in South America. That batch of products was not merely a vehicle sale but a comprehensive solution encompassing a fleet of driverless mining trucks, an intelligent dispatch system, and full-lifecycle operation and maintenance services.
As of July 2026, Sany Intelligent Mining had deployed over 300 driverless mining trucks domestically, accumulating over 13 million kilometers of safe operation and transporting over 41 million cubic meters of earth and stone. Viewing these two events together, Sany's layout in the South American mining market follows two parallel paths: one involves electric dump trucks from the Shaoyang base, pursuing a route of large-scale mass production and cost advantage; the other involves driverless mining trucks from the Shenyang base, offering a holistic solution of "equipment plus system plus service." The former addresses the issue of "affordability," while the latter tackles the issue of "smart utilization," both pointing to the real demand for green transformation in the South American mining industry.
Sany Special Vehicle is also synchronization (I think you want to say "simultaneously") expanding its production capacity. On July 20th, the Shaoyang Municipal Government signed a strategic cooperation agreement for industrial doubling with Sany Group, planning 355 acres of land for a new project with an investment of 800 million yuan in factory buildings and equipment. Once completed, it will add 15,000 units of annual production capacity, ensuring an annual dump truck production capacity of 25,000 units and striving to double its output value to 20 billion yuan by 2030. Shaoyang has simultaneously established an office to serve Sany Group and introduced six supporting measures to provide full-chain support ranging from enterprise services and project construction to technological empowerment and talent introduction and cultivation. However, there is still a gap between the batch (I think you want to say "mass") shipment of 200 units and truly establishing a foothold overseas.
Mining scenarios place extremely high demands on vehicle reliability, with the high altitudes, large temperature differentials, and complex road conditions in South American mining areas posing real tests to the durability of the three-electric systems. Preliminary test data is one thing, while the failure rate, maintenance response speed, and spare parts supply capability after large-scale, long-term operation are another. Additionally, tariff policies, localization certification requirements, and after-sales service network construction in South American countries are all key variables determining whether these trucks can transition from "being sold" to "selling well."
From an industry trend perspective, mining and infrastructure scenarios are emerging as the fastest-penetrating areas for electric heavy trucks. In July 2026, monthly sales of new energy dump trucks reached 4,029 units, up 111% year-on-year, setting a new monthly record. These scenarios share common characteristics of fixed routes, controllable charging, and high fuel costs, making the economic returns of electrification most apparent.
