As one of the famous German "BBA" trio, Audi is not doing well at present. As domestic new energy vehicles continue to carve out a share of the luxury car market, even top competitors like BMW and Mercedes-Benz have to rely on price wars to maintain sales, let alone Audi. Facing the "collapse" of terminal prices, Audi urgently needs a new generation of models to boost morale. Now, the all-new Audi Q5 has finally arrived, following closely on the heels of the new BMW X3.

At the 2024 Paris Motor Show, the all-new Audi Q5 made its official debut. Based on Audi's new PPC (Premium Platform Combustion) platform, the future locally produced long-wheelbase version is expected to launch in 2025.

In terms of appearance, the all-new Q5 adopts Audi's latest design language, with the iconic polygonal large front grille replaced by a more three-dimensional new style, featuring an array of scaly elements inside. The headlights have also been replaced with a more aggressive style.
The side design features a stronger sense of sportiness, with a waistline running through the front and rear of the body, and pronounced wheel arches adding a muscular visual effect. The rear end is more inclined, featuring popular through-type taillights.
It is worth mentioning that the new digital OLED taillights come with interactive functionality, displaying specific integrated warning symbols in emergency situations to warn other road users of accidents or malfunctions.
The biggest innovation in the cockpit lies in the replacement of the center console with a set of OLED curved dual screens, consisting of an 11.9-inch full LCD display and a 14.5-inch central control screen, complemented by an independent 10.9-inch co-pilot entertainment screen, forming a three-screen interconnection system in the front cabin. The overseas version of the infotainment system uses Android Automotive OS, and it is expected that adjustments may be made after localization. Additionally, the new car features ambient lighting with in-vehicle interaction capabilities, enhancing the technological feel.

In terms of configuration, the new Q5 comes with a 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system with active noise cancellation, as well as 15W wireless charging, an enhanced version of adaptive driving assistance, and more. Additionally, the new car supports optional HUD.
Power-wise, the new Q5 is still equipped with a 2.0T turbocharged four-cylinder engine capable of delivering a maximum power of 200kW and a peak torque of 340N·m. It also features a 48V mild-hybrid system, matched with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and Quattro all-wheel-drive system.

Based on the initial performance of the new car, the biggest updates compared to the current model lie in the three-screen system and the interactive taillights. Other aspects are relatively average, maintaining the traditional gasoline vehicle's average level, with no significant changes in either the power system or chassis performance.
Currently, the domestic market's focus on vehicles priced above 200,000 yuan has shifted to new hotspots such as smart cockpits and intelligent driving. However, the all-new Audi Q5 seems somewhat lacking in these aspects. If the Audi Q5 is to be locally produced next year, upgrading the cockpit and driving assistance systems should be a necessary move.
The current domestic market environment is fiercely competitive. On the one hand, the new Q5 will face numerous domestically produced new energy SUVs priced above 200,000 yuan that are strong in intelligence. On the other hand, the new Q5 also needs to compete in the shrinking mid-to-high-end gasoline SUV market with the new BMW X3, which will debut around the same time and features a new exterior design and an extended wheelbase, as well as the more established GLC. The pressure is considerable.
After the localization of the new Q5, the level of localized functional upgrades, the richness of configurations, and the final cost-effectiveness will all affect the fate of this Audi sales leader.
