With the end of October, many new energy vehicle companies have announced their sales figures for the month.
It has to be said that in October, the vast majority of automakers reported significant year-on-year and month-on-month growth, indicating a robust market situation. Notably, BYD achieved a remarkable milestone by selling over 500,000 vehicles in a single month, marking the best performance ever recorded by a domestic brand.
Among the new forces, Lixiang once again took the lead with sales exceeding 50,000 units, marking the second time this year that monthly sales have surpassed 50,000.
Huawei's Hongmeng Smart Selection followed closely in second place with 41,600 units sold, but it lagged behind Lixiang by nearly 10,000 units. This underscores Lixiang's strong performance, having led Hongmeng Smart Selection for several consecutive months. Yu Chengdong, Huawei's executive, will need to step up his efforts.
However, it's important to note that Hongmeng Smart Selection's sales figures represent the combined sales of three brands: AITO, Zhijie, and Xiangjie. When considering AITO alone, a popular brand within the group, it slipped to third place in October, overtaken by Leapmotor.
Leapmotor sold 38,000 units this month, an increase of nearly 5,000 units compared to the previous month. In contrast, Thalys (AITO) sold 36,011 units in October, a slight decrease from the previous month, placing it below Leapmotor.
Next are ZEEKR, XPeng, NIO, and Xiaomi, all of which sold over 20,000 units in October. However, XPeng and NIO both reported slight month-on-month declines in sales.
ZEEKR saw a significant increase, from 21,000 units in September to 25,000 units in October. The most surprising performance came from Xiaomi, which delivered on its promise to deliver over 20,000 units in October, achieving a growth rate of over 100%.
The October sales figures demonstrate the intense competition in the market. A slight lapse in attention could result in automakers being overtaken by their competitors.
Furthermore, these data may suggest that among the new forces, brands like NIO, XPeng, Lixiang, Leapmotor, AITO, Xiaomi, and ZEEKR have the highest chances of survival. Other automakers will need to step up their efforts.
As the penetration of new energy vehicles continues to increase and competition intensifies, sales figures will become increasingly important. Time is running out, and those who do not seize the opportunity now may find it difficult to catch up later.
