Kuaikeji, February 9th News: According to current industry plans, Apple is set to spearhead the launch of three premium flagship models in autumn 2026.
These will include the regularly updated iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the highly anticipated foldable iPhone. The iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e, which are tailored more towards the mass market, are expected to make their official debut only in spring 2027.
As the most powerful non-folding flagship in Apple’s lineup, the iPhone 18 Pro Max introduces two groundbreaking upgrades to its imaging system. Reports indicate that Apple is currently testing a cutting-edge variable aperture main camera for this ultra-premium model.
This innovative technology empowers users to manually adjust the amount of light entering the camera. By widening the aperture in low-light conditions, more light can be captured, while narrowing it in brightly lit scenes helps prevent overexposure. Crucially, the variable aperture feature grants users finer control over depth of field, making it effortless to capture breathtaking DSLR-quality bokeh portraits.
Prior to this development, Apple had consistently utilized a fixed aperture design in its mobile imaging solutions, spanning from the iPhone 14 Pro to the iPhone 17 Pro. Although Samsung had previously experimented with a similar concept in its Galaxy S9 and S10 series, it ultimately abandoned the approach due to concerns over device thickness and cost implications. Apple’s resurrection of this technology now signifies a fresh breakthrough in achieving an optimal balance between structural design and performance.
In addition to the main camera’s transformation, the iPhone 18 Pro Max’s telephoto lens is also poised to enter a new era of large apertures. While the previous-generation iPhone 17 Pro had already upgraded its telephoto sensor to 48 megapixels, the aperture size remained unchanged.
This time around, the iPhone 18 Pro Max will dramatically enhance the lens’s light-gathering capabilities and shutter speed by incorporating a telephoto camera with a larger aperture.
