The much-anticipated 'Golden September' has drawn to a close, yet the MPV market did not witness the anticipated sales surge. According to data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), only 66,000 MPVs were sold in September, marking a 31.1% year-on-year decrease and a 12.3% month-on-month decline. Despite the overall market downturn, the competition for the top positions remains intense. Among the top 10, new energy MPVs continue to gain traction, with fuel-powered vehicles losing one more spot compared to last month's eight.
Examining the top 10 list, while most models are under sales pressure, a select few have managed to achieve growth against the trend. The Buick GL8 New Energy (Buick GL8 PHEV) excelled, experiencing a 24.18% month-on-month increase, propelling it into the top three. The Granvia and the Buick GL8 fuel version also saw sales growth.

1st Place: Sienna – 5,849 units
September saw a shift in the MPV rankings, with the Sienna reclaiming the top spot with 5,849 units sold. This spacious seven-seater MPV, primarily targeting families, has firmly captured the attention of practical, no-fuss family consumers. Its appeal lies in Toyota's mature dual-motor hybrid system, a roomy interior, and a longstanding reputation for reliability. Additionally, increased terminal discounts have further boosted the Sienna's attractiveness. For users seeking low fuel consumption, spaciousness, and hassle-free driving, the Sienna remains a dependable choice.

2nd Place: Denza D9 – 5,056 units
This month, the Denza D9 maintained its second-place position with 5,056 units sold. Although sales have slightly dipped, it remains firmly in the leading group.
As a popular contender in the 300,000-yuan MPV market, the D9's greatest strength is its versatility for both business and family use. It excels in business settings and offers ample comfort for family travel. Coupled with the low fuel consumption enabled by its plug-in hybrid technology, which eliminates range anxiety for long trips, and features like intelligent driving and the Yunchan chassis, it has become a must-consider option in the high-end MPV market.

3rd Place: Buick GL8 New Energy (Buick GL8 PHEV) – 4,951 units
In September, the Buick GL8 PHEV outperformed the fuel version of the GL8 with 4,951 units sold. Its rapid ascent can be attributed to the business reputation accumulated by the GL8 over the years and its ability to meet evolving consumer demands for new energy MPVs. Compared to the fuel version, the PHEV version offers advantages in fuel consumption, intelligent configuration, and operating costs, giving this classic MPV renewed competitiveness.

4th Place: Seres V9 – 4,223 units
The Seres V9, which had ranked first for two consecutive months, slipped to fourth place this month. As a new entrant in the MPV market, it has generated significant buzz since its launch in May. Backed by Huawei's intelligent cockpit, intelligent driving system, and extended-range technology, the Seres V9 has quickly established itself in the new energy MPV market.
However, compared to established models like the Denza D9 and Buick GL8 New Energy (Buick GL8 PHEV), the Seres V9 is facing increasing pressure. As Huawei's intelligent solutions become more widespread, the V9's intelligent label is being diluted. To maintain its popularity, it needs to showcase more substantial strengths.

5th Place: Wey High Mountain New Energy – 3,740 units
In September, the Wey High Mountain New Energy achieved sales of 3,740 units, with market enthusiasm cooling slightly compared to before.
Today, the High Mountain lineup includes multiple models such as the High Mountain 7, High Mountain 8, and High Mountain 9, catering to various price points and usage scenarios. Among them, the High Mountain 8 Intelligent Edition and High Mountain 9 Intelligent Edition were launched at the end of September and may provide new sales impetus in the future. However, facing strong competition from rivals like the Denza D9 and Buick GL8 New Energy (Buick GL8 PHEV), the high-end MPV segment is becoming increasingly crowded, making it difficult for the High Mountain to break through.

6th Place: Granvia – 3,547 units
In the overall weakening MPV market, the Granvia is one of the few models on the list to experience sales growth. In September, its sales reached 3,547 units, with an 11.68% month-on-month increase.
As the "sister model" of the Toyota Sienna, the Granvia also inherits Toyota's tradition of spacious interiors and reliable performance. More importantly, it now offers substantial terminal discounts, with entry-level bare car prices in some regions dropping to around 240,000 yuan. For practical, no-fuss family users, this Toyota-backed, more affordably priced MPV remains highly attractive.

7th Place: Wuling Xingguang 730 New Energy – 2,875 units
In September, the Xingguang 730 New Energy achieved sales of 2,875 units, maintaining relatively stable overall performance.
The Xingguang 730 New Energy adopts a "cheap yet practical" approach, with advantages in spaciousness and low operating costs, meeting the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises and multi-child families for practical MPVs. Its high cost-effectiveness has allowed it to consistently rank among the top 10.

8th Place: Trumpchi M8 – 2,871 units
In September, the Trumpchi M8 achieved sales of 2,871 units, with a 7.45% month-on-month decline.
The Trumpchi M8, a seasoned player, once dominated the 300,000-yuan MPV market with its spacious interior, strong comfort, and business appeal. However, with the influx of numerous new energy MPVs and continuous efforts from rivals like the Denza D9 and Buick GL8 New Energy (Buick GL8 PHEV), along with consumers increasingly valuing intelligence and operating costs, this traditional MPV is facing significant competitive pressure.

9th Place: Voyah Dreamer – 2,791 units
In September, the Voyah Dreamer performed notably poorly, with sales reaching 2,791 units, a 51.62% month-on-month decline, making it the model with the largest drop among the top 10 MPVs.
The previous pre-sales in August generated a wave of orders, leading to a short-term sales surge. However, as these orders were gradually fulfilled in September, sales declined. Additionally, the 2026 Voyah Dreamer was launched at the end of September, with some users opting to wait for the new model, also impacting the month's sales. Coupled with intensifying competition in the high-end new energy MPV segment, the Dreamer is facing increased sales pressure.

10th Place: Buick GL8 – 2,442 units
In September, the fuel version of the Buick GL8 sold 2,442 units, with a slight 4.94% month-on-month increase, but it has slipped to the bottom of the rankings. This former powerhouse in the business MPV market is now not only being surpassed by its own new energy version but also facing continuous market share losses to new energy MPVs. The once-dominant aura of the fuel-powered GL8 is gradually fading.

In Conclusion:
It is evident that the MPV market did not experience the expected "Golden September" boom, with overall sales continuing to face pressure. New energy MPVs are accelerating their market presence, while fuel MPVs are facing greater challenges, leading to increasingly clear market differentiation. As we enter the "Silver October" and automakers step up their sales push, competition in the MPV arena will further intensify. In the coming stages, fuel and new energy vehicles will continue to compete head-to-head, promising more excitement in the battle for MPV market positions.
