As September approaches, we will also usher in the annual "tech spring festival".
If there are no unexpected events, a wave of new products, including the iPhone 16 series, will be unveiled at this year's autumn conference as scheduled.
For many users, the new iPhone has been long-awaited.
Combining recent external leaks, the iPhone 16 series has gradually entered mass production, with just over a month left before its official release.
Now, a blogger has exposed the iPhone 16 mockup, showcasing its appearance and color options.
Given that the iPhone 16 is already in mass production, the current leaks are highly credible, essentially representing the final version.
The iPhone 16 standard edition will offer five colors: white, black, blue, green, and pink. Pink has been popular since the introduction of the iPhone 13 series, and is expected to endure alongside black and white.
In terms of appearance, the new model maintains a straight-edged design with a matte aluminum frame and a fused-color glass back, providing excellent feel and aesthetics.
The rear camera adopts a vertical dual-camera setup similar to the iPhone X, allowing the two cameras to align horizontally for easier spatial video recording, compatible with Vision Pro headsets.
The previous diagonal arrangement did not support spatial video recording, inconsistent with Apple's current focus on Vision Pro.
The front remains unchanged, featuring the Dynamic Island display with a 60Hz refresh rate. It's impressive that Apple can offer a 60Hz screen in the $500 range; only Apple can do it!
Ming-Chi Kuo previously reported that the iPhone 16 standard edition's dimensions are estimated to be the same as the iPhone 15 at 147.63*71.62*7.8 mm, with a black bezel size of 2.0497mm.
Additionally, it's worth noting that Apple is reportedly incorporating Wi-Fi 7 technology into the iPhone 16 Pro series this year, exclusive to the Pro models, while the standard editions will stick with Wi-Fi 6E.
It's notable that Apple is almost two years behind Android flagships in adopting this technology.
Note: Wi-Fi 7 is the next-generation Wi-Fi standard, building upon Wi-Fi 6 with technologies like 320MHz bandwidth, 4096-QAM, Multi-RU, multi-link operation, enhanced MU-MIMO, and multi-AP coordination.
Wi-Fi 7 offers higher data transfer rates and lower latency, with a theoretical peak speed exceeding 40 Gbps, four times faster than Wi-Fi 6E.
Like Wi-Fi 6E, Wi-Fi 7 operates across three frequency bands: a low-frequency 2.4GHz band and two high-frequency bands at 5GHz and 6GHz.
If Apple indeed upgrades the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max to support Wi-Fi 7, users will need to upgrade their routers to enjoy the ultimate transmission speeds.
Several Snapdragon 8 Gen2 devices, such as the Xiaomi 13 released in late 2022, already support Wi-Fi 7.
However, Wi-Fi 7 was only made available in China in the second half of 2023, and vendors gradually enabled Wi-Fi 7 for older devices thereafter.
It's important to note that experiencing Wi-Fi 7 requires both terminal device and router support. To fully enjoy its capabilities, users upgrading to the iPhone 16 Pro series should also consider upgrading to a Wi-Fi 7 router.
Fortunately, domestic manufacturers have driven down Wi-Fi 7 router prices, with options available for $20-$30, sufficient for most households.
Regarding specifications, the iPhone 16 is expected to be equipped with the A18 chip and 8GB of RAM. The right side features a camera button and an action button, allowing one-tap access to the camera interface with options for single-click photography and long-press recording. It's unclear if these are physical or solid-state buttons. The iPhone 16 standard edition inherits the action button from previous Pro models, marking the end of the iPhone's mute switch.
While the iPhone 16 Pro/Max receive a dedicated camera button, their camera upgrades are relatively modest. Both Pro models gain a new 48MP ultra-wide-angle lens, primarily enhancing pixel count. The iPhone 16 Pro Max's 5x periscope zoom boasts a larger sensor area, enabling active use even at night.
Rumors suggest that the iPhone 16 Pro will also upgrade to a 5x periscope zoom, replacing the previous 3x telephoto lens. However, due to space constraints, even with the new sensor, imaging improvements may be subtle.
Furthermore, the iPhone 16 Pro series' battery capacity has increased compared to previous models, with the iPhone 16 Pro estimated at 3597mAh and the iPhone 16 Pro Max at 4769mAh. The iPhone 16 is expected to support up to 40W wired fast charging, significantly reducing charging time to under an hour, enhancing the user experience.
Accompanying the iPhone 16 is the new iOS 18 operating system, expected to bring new features like customizable icons and control center UI changes. The Apple Intelligence experience, including an enhanced Siri, will debut on the iPhone 16 series, offering a more intelligent and personalized user experience.
Incidentally, compared to the Pro versions' upgrades, the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus offer fewer enhancements. Apart from the action button, camera button, and 48MP ultra-wide-angle lens, their configurations remain similar to their predecessors. Fortunately, thanks to Apple Intelligent's 8GB RAM requirement, all iPhone 16 models come standard with 8GB of RAM, marking a significant upgrade.
Lastly, it's noteworthy that the iPhone 16 Plus is rumored to be Apple's last Plus model, with the iPhone 17 series introducing the iPhone 17 Slim to replace the Plus line.
