Samsung has always been relatively laid-back in the domestic market, in stark contrast to its high-profile performance in the global market. It's worth noting that Samsung has ranked first in global sales for consecutive years, enjoying a solid reputation among overseas brands, especially its high-end Galaxy series, which is undoubtedly the "king of smartphones".
However, in China, this "king of smartphones" seems to be struggling. It's not that it's bad, but mainly because the price is too high. With similar performance, consumers would rather choose domestically produced Android phones with higher cost-effectiveness. Nevertheless, for those who pursue quality, Samsung Galaxy remains a trustworthy product, as it has always excelled in terms of quality.
As the former king of Android phones, Samsung's presence in the domestic market in recent years has undoubtedly been overshadowed by domestic brands.
Especially after seeing the leaked images of the S25 Ultra, it's hard to tell whether it's from a major Korean manufacturer or a small factory in Zhuhai.
The Samsung S25 series launch is still nearly two months away, but its specifications have already been fully exposed. To find out more, keep reading.
Firstly, according to the latest SIM card tray image shared by foreign media, which is consistent with previously exposed information, the new Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra may come in four colors: black, dark blue, gold, and silver. It's worth noting that this slightly differs from previous information shared by well-known leakers, who predicted black, green, blue, and titanium versions. However, this is not an either-or situation, as Samsung may also launch online-exclusive or market-specific color options. Additionally, combined with previous leaks, the device will bring a series of design changes: more refined design, larger screen, narrower bezels, and rounder corners.
In other aspects, according to previously exposed information, the new Samsung Galaxy S25 series will include three models, with the top-of-the-line Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra potentially equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Supreme Edition for Galaxy mobile platform. Compared to the standard Snapdragon 8 Supreme Edition mobile platform, it features a higher clock speed for its big cores, offering stronger theoretical performance and an unprecedented performance leap for users, easily handling complex tasks and playing large games. The rear camera setup includes a 200MP primary camera with 2x optical quality zoom, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and two 50MP telephoto cameras with 3x and 5x optical zoom, respectively. Additionally, the device will support satellite communication, making it Samsung's first Chinese version flagship to offer this feature.
Incidentally, the European/global versions of the Samsung Galaxy S25 series have recently obtained certification from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States. Previously, the US version of the series had also passed FCC certification.
FCC documents reveal that the European/global versions of the Galaxy S25 series have model numbers SM-S931B/DS, SM-S936B/DS, and SM-S938B/DS, corresponding to the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra, respectively. Compared to the US version, the European/global versions have the "B/DS" suffix, indicating dual-SIM functionality.
Notably, there are some configuration differences between the European/global and US versions of the Galaxy S25 series. Firstly, in terms of UWB, only the Galaxy S25+ and Galaxy S25 Ultra in the US version support UWB, while all three models in the European/global version do. This feature aids in more precise tracking of lost items.
Secondly, in terms of charging, the US version of the Galaxy S25 supports 25W wired charging, while the Galaxy S25+ and Galaxy S25 Ultra support 45W wired charging. In the European/global version, the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ support 25W wired charging, and the Galaxy S25 Ultra supports 45W wired charging.
Moreover, all models in the European/global version of the Galaxy S25 series support Bluetooth 5.4, Wi-Fi 6E, GPS, UWB, NFC, and other connectivity options.
In recent years, Samsung's advanced process technology has struggled with yield rates, extending to the second-generation 3nm process. This has also impacted the mass production of the Exynos 2500, leading Samsung to abandon its use in the first three Galaxy S25 series models. Instead, rumors suggest it may be used in the Galaxy Z Flip 7 or the slim Galaxy S25 Slim, expected to be released in the second quarter of next year.
Recently, the Exynos 2500-powered Galaxy S25+ appeared in the Geekbench 6 benchmark database, revealing a 10-core configuration with a maximum CPU frequency of 3.3 GHz and single-core and multi-core benchmark scores of 2358 and 8211, respectively. Compared to Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Supreme Edition (with single/multi-core scores of 3230/10617), the Exynos 2500 lags behind by 37% and 29% in single-core and multi-core benchmarks, respectively, indicating a significant performance gap. However, it is still faster than Google's Tensor G4.
Although the Exynos 2500 will not be used in the first batch of Galaxy S25 series models, Samsung has not ceased testing it. Even if the yield rate of the second-generation 3nm process is acceptable and the Exynos 2500 can be mass-produced, its performance will still not be on par with the Snapdragon 8 Supreme Edition. It will be challenging for Samsung to maintain a dual-platform strategy for the Galaxy S series.
Due to low yield rates, long production cycles, subpar performance, and a lack of sufficient third-party customers, Samsung's foundry business is in trouble. It is speculated that mass production of the Exynos 2500 is crucial for Samsung's foundry business to survive and represents at least a phased victory for the company, laying the foundation for future products.
Additionally, the Samsung S25 Ultra is expected to be unveiled globally in San Francisco on January 23, 2024, with sales starting in early February. The price is expected to remain above 10,000 yuan.
Lastly, it's worth noting that according to well-known tech bloggers, Samsung will launch a compact flagship phone next year – the S25 Slim, positioned above the S25+ and just below the Ultra version.
It is reported that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim will feature a new 200-megapixel ISOCELL HP5 sensor as its primary camera, with a sensor size of approximately 1/1.56 inches. This sensor is also rumored to be used in the Galaxy Z Fold7.
Furthermore, both the ultra-wide-angle and telephoto cameras will adopt 50-megapixel JN5 sensors with a size of 1/2.76 inches and a pixel size of 0.64 micrometers.
Although there are reports that the S25 Ultra will use the ISOCELL JN3 sensor, there is no significant performance difference between the two.
Particularly noteworthy is that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim will be equipped with a telephoto lens supporting 3.5x optical zoom and adopting Samsung's newly released ALoP (All Lenses on Prism) technology, which will provide users with an even more exceptional photography experience.
Considering the current information, the Samsung S25 Ultra is expected to see further improvements in texture and screen quality. However, aspects such as camera and battery performance remain stagnant, raising doubts about its worthiness as a phone priced above 10,000 yuan. Nevertheless, some media outlets have reported that Samsung is developing a new Galaxy S25 Slim model, which is expected to be released in the second quarter of next year, targeting the Apple iPhone 17 Air as its competitor in the ultra-thin flagship segment. It remains to be seen which giant will emerge victorious in this battle.
