The significant update of iOS18 has taken everyone by surprise!

After being leaked online for almost a few months, iOS18 was finally released in the early morning today. Although the WWDC hype was not as intense as in previous years, Apple's new releases still attract widespread attention. After watching the entire content of the conference, you may find that whatever Apple doesn't want people to know in advance, no media will reveal even a shred of information about it. So, what is so mysterious about it?

This significant update is the call recording function that Apple users have been longing for many years, and its significance even surpasses the screen recording function first introduced in iOS11. Many people may ask, why didn't Apple allow iOS to support call recording for so many years? The reason was to protect user privacy. But now that this limitation has been lifted, does it mean user privacy is no longer important? Of course not. Apple still attaches great importance to protecting user privacy in the iOS system, but it also has to pay attention to users' demands over the years. After introducing the call recording function for the first time in iOS18, Apple's approach is to give users the choice of whether to use this function.

According to Apple's official introduction, to ensure users' right to know, when call recording is turned on, all parties involved in the call will receive a reminder. As for the way of reminder, it is still unknown. Personally, I think Apple may use voice, pop-up windows, text, or other methods to remind users at the top or a more prominent position on the call page. Although this method is good, it also greatly limits the use of this function.

Because unless it's someone very close, they would allow the other party to record the call. And once this opening is made, it will create a lingering impression in the other party's mind, wondering what the person wants to do with the recorded call content.

Once colleagues or friends use this function, they will first be questioned about whether it was accidentally turned on or intentionally done. If it's the former, it may still be forgiven. But if it's the latter, the rift between the two parties will be truly difficult to eliminate. Now the question is whether Android devices, in addition to iOS devices, are also applicable. Personally, I think they should not be supported, after all, the systems are different, and there is no reason to duplicate the other's functions.

Moreover, the call recording function in iOS18 still has some shortcomings, such as not being able to automatically record calls or support third-party app recording. In addition to call recording, iOS18 also brings T9 dialing, seamless SIM card switching, a comprehensively changed control center with higher freedom of settings, satellite messaging (which may not be available in China), and further upgraded privacy protection. In iOS18, it is now possible to lock individual apps with Face ID (which is a relatively practical update).

iOS18 has also optimized the gaming mode. When a game is in progress, the system will minimize unnecessary background activities and allocate more system resources to the game to ensure stability at high frame rates. Apple hopes that starting from iOS18, the iPhone will be transformed into a powerful gaming console, with multiple PC and console games being adapted in succession. In addition, email classification no longer requires an internet connection. As for a more intelligent Siri, it seems to be said every year, but the final performance still depends on the actual experience.

Of course, there is one thing that may upset some Apple fans here. The call recording function is based on Apple Intelligence (Apple AI), but this function is limited to the iPhone 15 Pro series and subsequent models, meaning that even if you can upgrade to iOS18, the vast majority of iPhones cannot use call recording. Are you convinced?
