As 5G technology advances into widespread commercial deployment, 6G has steadily emerged as the epicenter of global technological innovation. Recently, the 6G industry has once again made headlines with significant developments.
According to CCTV News, data sourced from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology indicates that China has been organizing and conducting 6G technical trials for four consecutive years. At present, the inaugural phase of these trials has been successfully concluded, leading to the establishment of over 300 key technological reserves.
In comparison to 5G, 6G heralds a new era of mobile information networks, seamlessly integrating communication, sensing, computing, and intelligence to offer comprehensive coverage across air, space, and ground. It marks a substantial evolution from 'mobile communication networks' to 'mobile information networks'.
Moreover, 6G is poised to deliver data transmission rates up to 50 times faster than 5G, with latency slashed to a mere one-tenth of its predecessor. Beyond mere enhancements in speed and latency, 6G is pivotal for unlocking novel capabilities, including global seamless connectivity, integrated air-space-ground communication, and the fusion of communication, sensing, and computing.
Significantly, on November 13th, Beijing hosted the most all-encompassing, professionally advanced, and influential event in China's 6G technology landscape. This year's 6G Development Conference, themed 'Intelligently Connecting the Globe, Building a 6G Technological Innovation Ecosystem,' aims to foster the development of global unified 6G standards through innovation. The conference will convene experts from both domestic and international spheres to deliberate on 6G application scenarios, system technology architectures, standard trends, and industrial R&D accomplishments anticipated for 2030 and beyond.
Among the highlighted achievements, the 2025 6G Development Conference will unveil technical reports on pivotal scenarios such as the integration of communication and intelligence, communication and sensing, as well as immersive communication. With a particular emphasis on the fusion of communication and intelligence, the conference will spotlight the latest research advancements in 6G AI-native design and agent communication.
Additionally, the conference will announce the outcomes of the 2025 6G technical trials. The China Academy of Information and Communications Technology will collaborate with industry stakeholders to enhance the capabilities of the 6G technical trial platform, providing a public service platform for comprehensive, end-to-end technical verification and iterative optimization to bolster 6G standardization and industrial R&D.
Currently, China stands at the forefront of global 6G R&D. According to the China Internet Development Report 2025, as of June 2025, China accounts for approximately 40.3% of global 6G patent applications, securing the top spot worldwide. Meanwhile, China has also emerged as the largest holder of global AI patents, boasting a 60% share.
Kaiyuan Securities highlighted in a research report that 6G is presently in the standard research and formulation phase. Projections by the IMT-2030(6G) Promotion Group suggest that by 2040, the number of 6G terminal connections will surge by over 30 times compared to 2022.
