On the one-year anniversary of Kimi's launch, founder Kimi Yang Zhilin responded to the future of Kimi and recent controversies surrounding him.
Technologically, on the one-year anniversary of the full launch of Kimi Chat, Yang Zhilin unveiled a new kimi mathematical model, k0-math, which benchmarks against o1. In benchmark tests, k0-math's mathematical capabilities are on par with the two publicly available models of the globally leading OpenAI o1 series: o1-mini and o1-preview.
According to Yang Zhilin, "Currently, there is a certain probability of errors in IMO and college entrance exam questions. However, the model is growing rapidly. Last year, the accuracy rate for these questions was just over 20%, but this year, it has surpassed 90%. This latest mathematical model is expected to be launched in the next one to two weeks."
When asked about recent acquisitions of AI startups and the return of talent, Yang Zhilin stated that Kimi has not encountered such situations but finds them normal. The industry is entering a new stage of development. Previously, many companies were involved in developing large models, while now some smaller companies are doing so, which is a natural pattern of industry development.
Regarding the downsizing of overseas business, Yang Zhilin said that improving retention rates is crucial. Retention rates are positively correlated with AGI. Currently, there is still a certain distance from AGI, and the interactive capabilities being developed are still quite limited.
'We proactively chose to streamline our business, focusing on doing one product well. Among large model companies, we have a small number of employees, with the highest ratio of computing power cards to personnel. The company will not expand its staff significantly and will streamline many aspects of its business. Look, ChatGPT has 500 million monthly active users and is already a super app. Of course, there are also other apps that struggle to 'break the circle.' We have observed the situation in the US market and chosen to focus, which is related to the future development of AGI. We control the number of personnel and focus more on innovative businesses.'
Furthermore, when asked about Doubao's rapid growth this year, Yang Zhilin responded that they do not focus on competition itself, as competition does not generate value. They concentrate on the model's thinking and reasoning abilities to provide greater value to users. They believe the key is to do the right things rather than thinking about differences or acting solely for competition.
