How many people who buy Wenjie are paying for its intelligent driving system?

Introduction

A few days ago, I wrote an article titled "Did those who spent 500,000 yuan on Wenjie M9 regret it?"

In the article, I conducted a small survey about people's opinions on the Wenjie M9. As of today, the statistical results are as follows:

First, let me clarify that the voters may not only be Wenjie car owners, but in terms of mainstream opinions, over 62% of users believe that buying the Wenjie M9 will not cause regret.

Now, let's take a look at the comments section. The most upvoted comment is:

"Those who say they regret it are competitors or just watching the show. I've noticed that my WeChat friends who bought the M9 have recently become wild salespeople."

Although this comment from a Guangxi netizen is somewhat subjective, it can still be seen that the reputation of the Wenjie M9 is quite good. Perhaps, as some netizens have said: those who have bought it all say it's good, and those who are criticizing it haven't bought it.

This domestic car, priced above 400,000 yuan, has been the top-selling model for six consecutive months. It must have its merits.

I decided to take a test drive of the Wenjie M9 today and share my most authentic experience of the test drive process with everyone.

An eye-catching intelligent headlight system

As I approached the test drive car, the first thing that caught my attention was Huawei's intelligent headlights.

I thought it was just a simple welcome light, but it's actually an intelligent front-car projector.

According to the salesperson's introduction, this system also provides a 100-inch outdoor giant screen projection function, which is very enjoyable for car owners who love the outdoors. This intelligent headlight system can also project lyrics, enabling an open-air KTV experience; it can also project movies, allowing you to enjoy an open-air cinema while camping.

A large TV specifically for the rear seats

The "large TV" in the M9 is a feature that has generated quite a bit of controversy. Some car owners love it, while others find it redundant.

This large TV is actually a curtain hanging in the middle of the second row, measuring 32 inches. It can be retracted when not in use. If viewed from the two positions in the second row, it can be quite uncomfortable, as the screen is slightly bright and can be dazzling, especially when viewed from the side. However, the effect is better when viewed from the third row. The image below shows the perspective from the third row:

However, even in the third row, watching movies while driving is not a pleasant experience. Both my friend and I felt a bit dizzy and were unable to immerse ourselves in the viewing.

I suspect that the scenario of watching movies or TV while parked for a rest may be used more often.

The basic control of this large TV relies entirely on voice commands and the front center console screen. I thought there would be a remote control, but there wasn't, making it not too convenient to operate.

Seat functions that are standard in luxury cars

Among them, the front and rear adjustment range of the second-row seats is quite large, and the two independent seats also support heating, ventilation, and massage functions. The third-row seats can also be adjusted forward and backward, but the range is relatively small, and there is no seat massage function.

The salesperson also introduced the zero-gravity mode of the boss seat separately, which is indeed very comfortable to sit on.

After activating the zero-gravity mode, the seat will perform real-time analysis based on the angle of the backrest motor and the rotation angle of the cushion, automatically adjusting the armrests on both sides to the most comfortable state, thus achieving suspended freedom for both arms. After activating this function, the co-pilot seat will also move forward and fold.

Excellent storage space

In 6-seat mode, the trunk of the Wenjie M9 can still accommodate two 28-inch checked luggage or stack four or five carry-on bags without any issues.

After folding down the third row, the trunk becomes quite large, with a volume of up to 726L, equivalent to a huge trunk space with a length and width of nearly 1.5 meters.

If you drive to go skiing in winter, there would be no pressure fitting a snowboard in this trunk.

There is no front trunk, which is a difference from pure electric models. Tesla and Xiaomi, for example, both have decent front trunks.

Refrigerator: A conventional car refrigerator that can probably hold about 6 cans of cola.

Huawei's intelligent driving system that exceeds expectations

During this test drive, what impressed me the most was Huawei's intelligent driving system. Huawei's urban NOA is touted as the ceiling of assisted driving, already capable of achieving end-to-end intelligent driving on ordinary urban roads.

During this test drive route, there were two sections under construction, with very complex driving conditions: traffic cones, newly painted road lines, roads without lines, and some unexpected road obstacles. The intelligent driving system of the Wenjie M9 basically achieved zero interventions, occasionally prompting for interventions but quickly returning to normal.

What was particularly impressive was the aggressive lane-changing behavior, similar to that of a real human driver.

The only scenario where intervention was required was when a water sprinkler occupied part of the lane in front and on the right, making it impossible to pass directly. The M9's intelligent driving system planned to detour on the left, but a motorcycle suddenly appeared on the left. To avoid the motorcycle, the M9's intelligent driving system simply stopped.

A year ago, I had the opportunity to test drive the Avita 11, and the Huawei ADS1.0 intelligent driving system I experienced at that time was completely different from the current one. From ADS1.0 to ADS2.0, Huawei's intelligent driving has made significant progress.

During the test drive, I didn't have any worries with the entire journey being entrusted to the intelligent driving system. The salesperson also informed me that the intelligent driving system will be upgraded to ADS3.0 next month, with further improvements in algorithm and computing power.

If I had a gas-powered car, I would probably choose it solely because of Huawei's intelligent driving system.

Another small survey

Conclusion

The mechanical functions of cars are likely to become increasingly similar, and the electrification process is basically complete. The second half of the game is now a competition of intelligence.

Currently, Huawei's intelligent driving system is indeed leading, especially in urban environments. Although it may not match the skills of an experienced driver, its overall intelligent driving level is already very excellent.

FSD is also about to be launched, and I am very much looking forward to the competition between FSD and Huawei.
