On December 20, media outlets reported that "Jiyue Motors had issued an internal email announcing the termination of the labor contract of its PR Director, Xu Jiye, and the issuance of a notice of criticism."
Days prior, a former Jiyue employee published a 10,000-word article titled "Review of the Jiyue Flash Crash Incident (Incomplete Version)" on a social platform, prompting a scathing rebuke from Xu Jiye, the PR Director. Xu vehemently stated, "If the company has reached this point today, it's solely due to the boss's issues. Are none of the employees responsible?" He further summarized, "In the eyes of servants, there are no heroes. A flawed warrior remains a warrior, whereas a perfect fly is still just a fly."
These remarks sparked widespread discussion among netizens. Comments such as "What a level of PR director, playing the villain role!" and "This shows the company deserves to fail, and the employees are unlucky" filled the comment section.
Shortly thereafter, news of "Jiyue PR Director Xu Jiye making inappropriate remarks" spread rapidly online. In response, Jiyue officials stated, "Since the company's crisis, PR Director Xu Jiye has failed to uphold the company's and employees' reputation. He has also posted divisive remarks on social media, severely damaging employee morale and company unity. According to the Employee Handbook, Xu Jiye's labor contract has been unilaterally terminated, and a notice of criticism has been issued."
Xu Jiye, the PR Director, responded to this incident by stating, "Before this email was sent, I did not receive any notice." He added, "I have been trying to contact the HR director and CEO Xia Yiping, but both are unreachable." Xu believed that the company's unilateral termination of his employment was a violation of regulations and suspected the notice was unofficial due to a potential company account hack.
A renowned automotive blogger sarcastically commented, "His (Xu Jiye's) remarks are more like reverse PR; it's quite outrageous."
This is not the first time Xu Jiye has been criticized for inappropriate remarks. Earlier this year, Xu sparked heated debate by commenting on Xiaomi's loss-making car sales on social media. He deemed Xiaomi's approach as a form of dumping and criticized CEO Lei Jun, stating, "Entrepreneurs like Lei Jun should have some moral compass and shame, right? Losing 60,000 yuan per car, why sell so many when losing so much?"
When media sought confirmation from Xu regarding this matter, he responded, "Social media is mainly for sharing personal opinions among friends, within that circle. I won't confirm or deny specifics." However, subsequently, Jiyue CEO Xia Yiping issued an internal letter severely criticizing Xu Jiye.
It was anticipated that after being criticized for "bashing Xiaomi," Xu would learn from his mistakes and be cautious with his words. However, unexpectedly, Xu continued to speak without restraint, this time directing his criticism towards his own employees. Following Xu's angry rebuke, a Douyin user with the profile "Jiyue Motors Product Manager" posted, "Since taking office, this PR director (Xu Jiye) has been on the verge of attacking Lei Jun and insulting Xiaomi, tarnishing the company and brand. Knowing the company was collapsing, he still wrote refutation articles to deceive car owners and employees." Moreover, as the responsible person, Xu failed to timely take back operational accounts in various regions, allowing the negative impact of the "company collapse" to escalate.
Netizens commented, "Should this type of management that exacerbates conflicts between employees and the company be terminated rather than kept?" Another bluntly asked, "Will Xu Jiye be able to find a PR-related job in the future?"
On December 19, Jiyue announced its employee compensation plan, providing economic compensation based on the "N+1" standard. At this critical juncture, the unilateral termination of Xu Jiye, the PR Director, is clearly detrimental. From his response, it seems Xu has grievances about the company's actions. However, Jiyue's HR informed employees that "Xu Jiye's unilateral termination of the labor contract entitles him to no compensation." Notably, after stating he hadn't received any termination notice, Xu again posted on social media, "Basically figured out that this is a fake edict."
It remains unclear whether the news of Jiyue PR Director Xu Jiye "bashing employees and being fired by the company" is true. However, in the comments section, some netizens bluntly stated, "It will eventually become true." Another sarcastically commented, "When Jiyue collapses, Xu Jiye's position will also end." Regardless of its veracity, this incident serves as a wake-up call for every automaker.
