Recently, Li Fenggang, the General Manager of Beijing Hyundai Automotive Co., Ltd., announced that the Ioniq V is set for an official launch in September, and three additional new models will be introduced this year. As Beijing Hyundai gradually unveils its subsequent new products, it is accelerating its布局 (strategic deployment) of new energy vehicles (NEVs). After years of “observation,” Beijing Hyundai's new product launches are finally picking up steam. Over the past few years, China's NEV market has witnessed rapid development, with domestic brands swiftly rising to prominence due to their advantages in electrification and intelligent technologies. In contrast, Beijing Hyundai has appeared more like a “spectator.” Previously, Beijing Hyundai launched NEV models such as the Encino EV, Festa EV, and Elantra EV. However, due to their limited market performance, these models were subsequently withdrawn from the market. Meanwhile, Beijing Hyundai's subsequent NEV product launches have been sluggish, failing to establish a sustained product lineup and gradually diminishing its presence in the NEV sector.

In fact, Beijing Hyundai had previously formulated a new energy transformation plan. In 2022, it proposed the “2025 New Forward Plan,” aiming to launch 4-5 pure electric models between 2023 and 2025. However, the actual pace of product launches has been slower than anticipated. It wasn't until October 2025 that Beijing Hyundai launched its first all-new pure electric SUV, the EO Ioniq, further advancing its new energy product lineup. Currently, the market performance of the EO Ioniq has fallen short of expectations. Data reveals that from October to December 2025, the EO Ioniq sold only 558 units cumulatively, averaging less than 200 units per month. In the first half of this year, cumulative sales reached 487 units, with the average monthly sales volume dropping further to below 100 units. Overall, the market performance of the EO Ioniq has not shown significant improvement, and the outside world remains cautious about the actual effectiveness of Beijing Hyundai's new energy transformation.

Against this backdrop, Beijing Hyundai is continuing to advance its subsequent new energy product lineup, with the Ioniq V becoming a key model. It is understood that the Ioniq V will be officially launched in September this year. According to currently available information, the Ioniq V boasts a body size of 4900/1890/1470mm and a wheelbase of 2900mm, positioning it as a mid-size NEV. The new vehicle is built on the E-GMP pure electric platform and offers both pure electric and extended-range powertrain versions. In terms of range and charging capabilities, the Ioniq V is equipped with CATL lithium iron phosphate batteries, providing two capacity options: 53.5kWh and 66.8kWh, with a maximum CLTC pure electric range of up to 650km. Additionally, the new vehicle comes standard with 800V high-voltage fast charging across all trims, further enhancing charging efficiency. In terms of intelligence, the Ioniq V is also equipped with an L2+ level driver assistance system jointly developed with Momenta, supporting NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) for both highway and urban driving. From a product perspective, the Ioniq V appears to be well-equipped in terms of platform, range, and intelligence.

However, being well-equipped in terms of specifications does not necessarily guarantee market acceptance, and the market performance of the Ioniq V after its launch remains uncertain. Currently, the NEV market offers an increasingly diverse range of models, and consumers' attention to vehicle design, intelligent features, and range performance continues to rise. Product differentiation has gradually become a key factor influencing consumer choices. For the Ioniq V, in addition to market competition, its own design has also sparked some controversy. The new vehicle adopts a cyber-aesthetic design philosophy, featuring sharp body lines and a sleek silhouette, resulting in a highly distinctive overall appearance. However, this bold design has also drawn mixed reactions. Some consumers find its style too avant-garde, with some even arguing that amid the growing maturity of domestic vehicle designs, the Ioniq V's appearance seems somewhat “outlandish.”

In recent years, Beijing Hyundai has faced pressure in its overall market performance. Data shows that in 2025, Beijing Hyundai's cumulative sales reached 210,000 units, up 14.8% year-on-year. In the first half of 2026, cumulative sales stood at 94,700 units, down 5.3% year-on-year. Against the backdrop of accelerated new energy transformation, Beijing Hyundai continues to expand its new energy product lineup. Whether the upcoming Ioniq V can gain consumer acceptance will become a focal point of market attention. Meanwhile, Beijing Hyundai is also accelerating its subsequent product planning. According to the plan, Beijing Hyundai will launch around 20 new products over the next 4-5 years, refining its new energy product lineup around technologies such as pure electric and extended-range powertrains to cover more market segments. At the same time, Beijing Hyundai will strengthen its cooperation with Chinese supply chain companies such as CATL and Momenta. It is worth noting that although Beijing Hyundai has faced pressure in the domestic market in recent years, its overseas market performance has been relatively strong. Public reports indicate that in 2025, Beijing Hyundai exported approximately 82,000 units, up 48% year-on-year, with exports becoming an important pillar of its sales. Overall, Beijing Hyundai's new energy transformation has been relatively lagging, and whether it can improve its market performance through new products like the Ioniq V remains to be seen over time.
