In China’s domestic market for luxury cars priced over a million yuan, the Zunjie S800 has undoubtedly made waves. As a domestically manufactured luxury vehicle in this premium price bracket, it quickly achieved monthly sales exceeding 1,000 units shortly after its launch in May of the previous year, with a notable 1,006 units sold. While reaching over 1,000 monthly sales may be common for mass-market vehicles, for the Zunjie S800—an ultra-luxury executive sedan with a price tag over a million yuan—this achievement is truly outstanding.
But this was just the beginning. In the following months, the Zunjie S800’s sales continued to climb steadily, peaking in December 2025 with a remarkable 4,223 units sold. In the domestic market for million-yuan executive sedans, it secured the top sales position by a wide margin. It’s no overstatement to say that, at that time, the Zunjie S800 had far outperformed its German rivals, such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series, and Audi A8L.

The immediate success of the Zunjie S800 upon its launch can be attributed to several key factors. Firstly, it features Huawei’s HarmonyOS cockpit and Qiankun Intelligent Driving system, providing it with a significant technological edge over its German counterparts. Secondly, its spacious design and superior comfort configurations outshine those of its German rivals. Thirdly, it benefits from Huawei’s strong brand influence, with many buyers driven by a sense of loyalty or admiration for the brand. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, while the Zunjie S800 is also a luxury car priced over a million yuan, its starting price of just 708,000 yuan makes it tens of thousands of yuan more affordable than its German competitors.
Initially, it was widely believed that, with Huawei’s brand appeal and the Zunjie S800’s robust product offerings, it would continue to dominate the domestic market for million-yuan executive sedans. However, unexpectedly, after entering the second half of the year, the Zunjie S800’s sales took a sharp downturn. Let’s examine the sales data for July.

In July, the Zunjie S800 sold only 367 units, ranking third in the domestic market for million-yuan luxury cars. The Maybach S-Class took the top spot with 436 units sold, followed by the BMW 7 Series with 412 units. In fact, the Zunjie S800 failed to reach 1,000 units in sales not only in July but also in May and June, with 938 units sold in May and 593 units in June.
As recently as April this year, the Zunjie S800’s sales still reached 1,147 units. This indicates that from May to July, the vehicle experienced a consistent decline in sales, with July marking a record low. So, the question arises: Why has the Zunjie S800’s sales performance faltered?
To answer this question, we must first understand who is buying the Zunjie S800.

Upon reviewing the data, it becomes clear that the primary buyers of the Zunjie S800 are business owners in traditional industries, accounting for 70% of purchases. These individuals have annual incomes in the tens or even hundreds of millions of yuan and typically already own luxury vehicles such as the Maybach S-Class, Porsche, Bentley, and even Rolls-Royce. Most purchases of the Zunjie S800 are either trade-ins or additional vehicles. Additionally, there is a segment of new elites from the tech, internet, and finance sectors, who have disposable annual incomes exceeding 2 million yuan and possess significant financial resources.
Once we understand the buyer demographics of the Zunjie S800, analyzing the reasons for its sudden sales decline becomes more straightforward. Given that only a very small percentage of individuals in China have annual incomes exceeding 10 million yuan, sales naturally begin to decline once this group has been fully tapped. Furthermore, other factors such as a lack of brand heritage, high depreciation rates in the second-hand market, and significant price reductions by competing models in the same class have all contributed to the Zunjie S800’s sales slump.

Despite this, from January to July this year, the Zunjie S800 still managed to rank first in the domestic market for million-yuan luxury cars, with a total of 7,363 units sold. The Maybach S-Class and BMW 7 Series took second and third place, with sales of 4,716 and 4,272 units, respectively. Finally, do you think the Zunjie S800 can maintain its lead and become the sales champion in the domestic market for million-yuan luxury cars this year?
