According to the latest global sales figures for new energy vehicles (NEVs) released by research institution CleanTechnica, sales continue to climb, reaching 1.84 million units in November 2024, marking a 32% year-on-year increase and setting a fresh sales record. NEVs now account for 28% of the global automotive market, with pure electric vehicle (EV) sales hitting an all-time high of 1.2 million units, up 22% year-on-year, and comprising 64% of total NEV sales. Meanwhile, plug-in hybrid vehicle sales have risen for six consecutive months, with November sales surging 55% year-on-year.

From January to November, cumulative global NEV sales reached 15.3 million units, accounting for 21% of global auto sales (18% for pure EVs). Including hybrid vehicles, which hold a 14% market share, more than one-third of global auto sales are now electrified.

In the mainstream markets, data from market research firm RhoMotion indicates that from January to November, sales in the Chinese market totaled 9.7 million units, up 40% year-on-year; the EU, EFTA, and UK markets saw sales of 2.7 million units, down 3% year-on-year; the US and Canadian markets recorded 1.6 million units, up 10% year-on-year; and sales in other regions amounted to 1.1 million units, up 25% year-on-year.

Global NEV Sales Data

Among the top 20 best-selling NEV models globally in November, Tesla Model Y led with 106,293 registrations, a 6% year-on-year decrease but still topping the list. Tesla Model 3 came in third with 58,213 registrations, up 5% year-on-year. BYD models maintained their strong presence, occupying 11 spots in the top 20. Among non-BYD and non-Tesla brands, Wuling Hongguang Mini EV was the best-selling model, soaring to sixth place with 34,786 registrations, its best performance since 2022.

Xiaomi SU7 achieved a record registration volume of 23,156 units, returning to the TOP 20 list at 15th place. With increased production capacity and the sales potential of its first SUV model, Xiaomi YU7, in 2025, Xiaomi's sales target of 300,000 vehicles in 2025 appears not only feasible but somewhat conservative.

Geely made a strong showing with three models in the top 20: Geely Xingyuan, Geely Panda Mini, and Geely Yinhe E5. Geely Xingyuan, in its second month on the market, registered 20,038 units, emerging as a formidable competitor to BYD Dolphin and Wuling Binguo in the A0-class pure EV sedan market. With these three models, Geely became the brand with the second-most models on the list after BYD. With the delivery of export models of Geely Yinhe E5 in 2025, Geely's electric vehicle sales are expected to continue growing throughout the year.

Geely NEV Sales

At the "Taizhou Declaration" analysis meeting, Geely made it clear that its goal for 2025 is to maintain rapid growth, aiming for sales of 2.71 million passenger vehicles, an increase of 25%, including 1.5 million NEVs. The Group's vision for 2023 is to sell more than 5 million vehicles by 2027.

Traditional European and American automakers remained absent from the best-selling list, with Volkswagen ID.3 topping their sales at 15,540 units. Among Chinese brands, Zeekr's pure EV SUV 7X delivered 11,112 units, a remarkable achievement for a model that has only been on the market for four months. FAW Besturn Pony sales are on the rise, with 13,890 registrations in November, while Changan Deep Blue's medium-sized SUV S7 set a sales record for the second consecutive month, selling over 12,000 units. Among new automotive forces, XPeng's Mona M03 sales are also growing, with 11,960 registrations in its third month after launch.

On the cumulative sales ranking list for vehicle models from January to November, Tesla Model Y and BYD Song continued to rank first and second, respectively. Tesla Model 3 maintained its third place, outselling BYD Qin Plus by 27,000 units. However, BYD Haiou, ranking fifth, is experiencing soaring sales (up 103% year-on-year) and is expected to enter the European market in 2025, potentially propelling it into the top three globally.

Cumulative NEV Sales Ranking

In November's best-selling brands, BYD led with 485,000 sales, setting another record. However, only 31,000 of these sales were from overseas markets, indicating a high dependence on the Chinese domestic market, which accounts for 90% of total sales. Tesla ranked second, followed by the "rising" Geely in third place with over 89,000 registrations. Wuling and Lixiang completed the top five.

NIO, ranking ninth, achieved sales of 40,000 units, setting a record for the fourth consecutive month. XPeng, ranking 13th, also saw rapid growth with 31,000 registrations in November, a record for the sixth straight month, fueled by strong sales of Mona M03 and P7+ models. Deep Blue, ranking 15th, set a record with 27,477 registrations, with its SUV model S7 accounting for 45% of sales. Zeekr, ranking 16th, also set a record with 27,000 registrations. Xiaomi ranked 20th.

In the cumulative sales ranking of brands from January to November, the top brands' sales advantages were evident. BYD, in first place, sold twice as many vehicles as Tesla, which in turn sold three times as many vehicles as Wuling, ranking third. BMW ranked fourth, while Geely surpassed Lixiang to take fifth place. Geely's rapid rise positions it as a contender to join the elite circle of top NEV competitors.

From automaker sales statistics, as of November, BYD's market share increased to 24.4%, up 2.3 percentage points year-on-year. Tesla, in second place, saw its market share decrease by 2.9 percentage points to 10.4%. Geely-Volvo, in third place, increased its market share by 0.2 percentage points to 8.2%, followed by Volkswagen and SAIC Motor with 5.8% and 5.4%, respectively.
